Good Vibes and Prayers are Needed.

I don't often do this, but I have friend who is in need of prayers and good vibes. I have a family
friend, Andrew, that was over in Iraq. Yesterday he was shot while boarding a helicopter. His mom, Chloe, said that when she talked to him he said that his tibia was shattered and a chunk of his calf is gone. She said that he was very groggy. Right now, they are flying him to Germany for evaluation. He may need a steel rod in his leg. After he leaves Germany, he will be flown to Fort Bragg (where he is stationed) for about a week and then home to Florida for a month and then he will be re-evaluated to see if he could return to military duty. Please pray for and send good vibes to Andrew and his family.

44. Just got into work and got an email from his mom

Hello Again
Andrew has been flown to Germany and is in Landstuhl Regional Medical Center. He is scheduled for wound debridement (cleaning out) in the morning (8 hours ahead of EST). He called us this evening at 55 PM EST and we had about a 20 minute conversation with him. He is, of course, in a lot of pain (and is fuzzy on his pain medication) but is still keeping his sense of humor. I said that as we got the news last night my brain felt like something had gone through it, and he said,"That's funny, my leg feels the same way!."
As far as we know, and IF he can get a slot on the plane, the transport plane will leave Germany sometime on Friday. He said they make the trip three times a week, so if Friday's flight is filled, he will have to wait until Sunday or Tuesday.
So, that's what I know. We hope to have a call from him tomorrow after his surgery.
Sleep well all of you. I hope I can get some sleep tonight because I got very little last night and I think a lot of you were up with me.

He is out of surgery for today. Should be flying back to NC on Friday. He will need a rod in his left tibia. They will be doing the surgery when he gets back here.

Just got this from his mom. At least he still has his sense of humor!!

Good Day to all
We spoke with Andrew earlier today. He had just returned from surgery for the debridement of his wounds. He seemed to be more comfortable than he was yesterday. Of course, he was "high" from the anesthesia and the pain medication. Not a bad place to be...
He is still thinking that he will be flown back to FT Bragg on Friday. He was (again) regaling us with stories about his antics on the trip to Germany, i.e. sign on his belly that said "Germany or Bust", yelling "Where's my beer?" when he was rolled into the hospital (to which a nearby COL responded, "All in due time, Son"), and the things he said to his "favorite" Sergeant when he was first injured. Ironically, it was the Sergeant that has given him such a hard time for three years and he actually hugged Andrew as he was taken off the helicopter (to which Andrew replied "OK, that's enough, stop right there!"). This unit had another medic (God bless him) that was killed last week, so it's getting even more stressful for all the other guys.
So, we are so grateful. He seems to be getting good care and says everyone is very nice. I am taking his cell phone to NC so be prepared to hear from him...any and all of you! You know Andrew and his cell phone! Oh, by the way, this injury is to his left leg so it won't interfere with his driving--another Andrew activity. We will have to hide his keys for about a month.
**Be on the lookout for a "Time" magazine cover story in the next week or so. They were covering this mission that Andrew's unit just completed.

Andrew is now coming home on Sunday instead of Friday. He will be having his surgery on Monday. This is all unless someone else is more critical than him and he gets bumped to Tuesday for coming home.

Andrew is back on US soil. As far as I know he is at Womack. He is in this week's issue of Time magazine (the one with a penguin on the cover), on page 30, you can barely make out his last name on his helmet (Harriman), he is the one wearing the blue gloves and shielding a soldier's face.

He is on US soil. No telling when he will actually go home to Florida. His mom thought he would be there for a couple of weeks. Time will tell.
