Geico commercials
I know a lot of you guys hate Geico commercials. I don't. I am a little tired of the cave people and even the little Gecko but the ones where they have a star sitting by an "ordinary" person "translating" what the ordinary person says into showbiz speak....I just can't enough of...especially hearing Peter Graves say: "I put on some tangerine lip gloss"...and later..."I am one lucky woman." I rofl EVERY time. I am simple-minded I guess but that just cracks me up....Peter Graves, in deadpan...saying he puts on tangerine lip gloss. I'm sorry. I love it.

1. I like the one with Don Lafontaine.
I've been doing versions of the stentorian, doom-laden voice of the movie trailer announcer for years.

"In a world..."

"Coming this summer..."

"The not-to-be-missed movie spectacular of the summer!..."

10. There's a comedian out there, whose name I forget, who's schtick is
built around the movie trailer announcer voice. Lots of "coming this summer" and all that; and the humor is derived from the way the film's marketers try to cover up the essential silliness of the movie with a lot of hyper-serious commentary.

The film he invents to illustrate this concept is Arnold Schwarzenegger's "The Little Tortilla Boy". B-) :+

he does the comedy on the side.
Seriously.
He also sweats up a storm.

29. My husband the dj does that over the sound system at the club..
...it kills every time. (he can drop his voice that low; although he sounds a little Wolfman-Jack like).

8. Sprint commercials
Sprint commercials used to be a hoot too...the ones with them confusing words...flour the kids, soap opera star...herd of dachsund...Captain and Tenille....<g>

They don't do those any more. Now they are just ordinary commercials...

9. I can't get enough of the Peter Graves one. I wanna ban the Little Richard one.
It's just dumb.

But Graves - fucking hilarious!

And I have enjoyed the caveman ones - I think they're pretty clever. Especially "It's my mom - I'll put her on speaker phone".

12. I'm really sick of those
my wife likes the Little Richard bit, but I think they were maybe close to sort of being nearly cute the first time . . . they are pretty lame now.

13. THAT is one problem
Overkill. They find a cute formula, kind of clever...and then they run it into the ground. Still, I just can't get enough of a very deadpan Peter Graves talking about tangerine lip gloss.

especially the one where he's at the shrinks. Favorite line -- "It's my mother -- I'll put it on speaker phone"

18. I like the mother on Speaker Phone too
...and to be honest, I've seen so many shrinks I put Woody Allen to shame and that uptight, legs-crossed, defensive, not-getting-it shrink, the caveman talks to, is not THAT unrealistic. Shrinks tend to be fucked up.

16. how about some love for Charo and Verne Troyer?
I love Verne's "got my car fixed..." singing. And Charo - whom they don't show nearly often enough - "Que Rrrrromantico!!"

Lol.

I don't find the Peter Graves one very funny. Love Little Richard.

22. Charo is UNDERESTIMATED to the max!!1 She's like what Ann RICHARDSON
Edited on Tue Mar-27-07 06:04 PM by UTUSN
said about Ginger ROGERS, that she did everything ASTAIRE did but backwards and in high heels. Charo is doing it all in two languages/cultures. Peter GRAVES and the announcer dude similarly let themselves go into their characters full tilt. Verne shows some self-consciousness, hesitation, like he is being prompted. Little Richard just thinks he's cute instead of letting his cuteness speak for itself.

19. GEICO commercials rock
"We live is a world where individual ego is at the forefront."

"Response?"

"Yes, I have a response,.... 'WHAT?!?!'"

And the new one is a hoot.

"How are you feeling?.... sorry, he doesn't answer since he's a puppet."

20. I am so happy
I can admit I like Geico, (and old Sprint), ads. Usually I just see "hate Geico" adds here. Poor cavemen. I do want to see a cavewoman finally. In that one the caveman says he and his girlfriend are back together. I want to see her...haha
