Bands you love that others seem not to know much about...
Dead or Alive:
My favorite song from them is Sex Drive

oh the suns going down
the nights coming in
i got a brain for business and a body for sin
so shoot like a rocket cuz my engine is hot
if you want whats forbidden
baby thats what i got

sex drive(x6)

sex drive it sees no gender or color
so lets get together and collide with each other
sex drive aw you know how it feels
get out of my car and get under my wheels

sex drive(x4)

french kisses a thing of the past
were too young to die so we'd better live fast
the dying is easy the urge is so hard
if your looking for funking then get into my car

im a mercedes benz why dont you jump in
i got a rear view mirror you can watch us in
the harder you drive the smoother i go
i got my engine running

sex drive it sees no gender or color
so lets get together and collide with each other
sex drive aw you know how it feels
get out of my car and get under my wheels

oh the suns coming down
the nights coming in
i got a brain for buisness and a body for sin
so shoot like a rocket cuz my engine is hot
if you want whats forbidden baby thats what i got

get under my wheels(x3)

Unfortunately, they're relatively unknown outside of progressive rock / heavy metal circles.

After I heard their XM performance, they quickly shot up to be in my top 5-10 favorite bands EVER.

17. They're much better live.
I've been to at least six PT shows over the last few years (going to two more in May and I recently saw the PT side project Blackfield a couple weeks ago) and they just keep getting better!

3. Bela Fleck
I've been following him for over 15 years.
He's won three grammy's for best album - one for bluegrass, one for jazz, and one for classical. All for playing banjo.

44. I first saw Bela play in 1983...
Edited on Tue Mar-27-07 10:53 PM by greendog
...at a Bluegrass festival in Louisville, KY. The previous New Grass Revival lineup (with Courtney and Curtis) had split up and the new line up (with Bela and Pat) wasn't together yet.

Sam Bush and Bela (then unknown) joined David Grisman onstage for a couple tunes. At the time, Grisman's band included Mike Marshal, Darol Anger, Mark O'Connor, and Rob Wasserman.

Not much you can say about a lineup like that 'cept WOW!

They covered Radiohead's OK Computer on their cd, Radiodread. It's radiohead and reggae, how kuhl.

Also, the Polyphonic Spree

In Fredricksburg, Texas,

la la la la something, i can't remember the words.

actually my fave song of theirs is "Old Blevins".

then the one about the Golden Triangle.

anyone who has spent way too much time in the Ark La Tex needs them some Lounge Lizards.

at McGonigle's Mucky Duck, in Houston. went there a few times to see them, before i escaped from Texas :-)

actually i have been looking for a good excuse to go down to the Kuumbwa, i haven't been there in years. an ALL gig would be worth the ride. i'm on Sleepy John's mailing list so i should hear about it when they're on the calendar.

19. The Devlins, Placebo, Black Lab
They put out a perfect album called Waiting.

Black Lab's album Your Body Above me is one of my all time faves. I have know idea what happened to this band, but I wish they'd do another.

Placebo is a fantastic Brit band with a really unique sound.
