I just got a call from the Denton Record-Chronicle to verify my LTTE. They are going to print it ASAP:
Gonzogate: The administration has offered to let Karl Rove and Harriet Miers be "interviewed" behind closed doors, not under oath, without a transcript, on items chosen by the administration, and with no opportunity to go back later to clear up if the inevitable inconsistencies. Inconsistencies are inevitable - every time somebody, especially Alberto Gonzales, says anything, there is another one.
What is more laughable is Tony Snow's standard line to sell this lame deal: "The Committee will have to accept this offer if they want to get to the bottom of the story." Bad choice of words, or Freudian slip?
Someone should remind Mr. Snow that "stories" are the things that your mother said you were not supposed to tell. And this one gets wilder by the day.
Now we have a Dept. of Justice attorney invoking the 5th Amendment . . . apparently because she is not sure what the current story is. Maybe she knows that Rove hasnt decided what it is yet. Maybe she's just afraid of her mother.
