JONESBORO -- A Craighead County woman was arrested Friday after she allegedly stole a teddy bear from the arms of a 3-year-old child on March 22.
Judge Keith Blackman found probable cause to charge Tonya Marie Taylor, 24, Bono, with breaking or entering in connection with the incident.
Detective Mike Branscum said police were called to Hollywood Video, 1843 East Highland Drive, Jonesboro, on March 22 in reference to a breaking or entering.
On the scene, the child's mother reported she was sitting with her 3-year-old daughter when a female approached the vehicle, Branscum wrote in his 1-page probable cause affidavit.
"
leaned into the car and grabbed a stuffed bear from the child's arms and started walking away," Branscum quoted the child's mother as saying. " believes that the suspect may not have seen her until she leaned into the car."
The child's mother told officers she confronted Taylor about the incident, but Taylor ran toward a vehicle and drove off with the bear.
Taylor was identified by others near the scene, Branscum noted.
"When police called that evening on her cellular telephone, she spoke to them for a few minutes, then hung up on them," he wrote.
On Friday, Taylor went to the Police Department with the bear in hand and a witness, Branscum continued.
" claimed she found the bear on the parking lot and that the witness could back her up," Branscum wrote. "When police got ready to get a written statement from the witness, she refused to give one."
Taylor was then arrested.
