1. City hall.
A neighbor contacted city hall to get the name & number of local foundations that provided grants. She was put in touch with one who did grants for seniors and the disabled. The grant paid for a wheelchair ramp and a handicap accessible remodeling project for her bathroom.

If you want a gov. grant perhaps your representatives can give you the same info on a state or federal level?.

2. Do you live in a historical district?
If so, check with the local preservation board.

6. You can get a grant to add a storm shelter room to your house....
or to modify a room to be a storm shelter. The gov will pay 3/4 of the cost--which means that, minimally, you'll still have to come up with $2500.

7. What kind of improvement?
If its for a new kitchen with granite counter tops, I doubt it. If its for added insulation or new windows there is a possibility.
