At least before "And then There were Three."

Wind and Wuthering is a pretty decent album.

1. I agree! Wind and Wuthering was very good. The writing was a lot more like earlier Genesis
I also consider their live album "Seconds Out" to be a very good album. I skipped quite a few classes when that album came out!

2. A Trick of the Tail is a great album
And I'm man enough to admit liking the Abacab and Invisible Touch stuff.

I'm actually thinking about going to see them this fall

3. A Trick of the Tail, although I did enjoy Duke, but nothing after that...
it really started when Peter Gabriel left after Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. I love Trick of the Tail, and Duke.

4. Collins with and without Genesis is a guilty pleasure
And hey, if it wasn't for me liking the Invisible Touch-era stuff, I never would have decided to search out the Gabriel-era stuff.

5. I enjoy it even up to "Genesis".
"Mama" is an awesome dark pop song, "Many too Many" is underrated, "Follow You, Follow Me" is a classic and "Misunderstanding" gets better with each listen. But my favorite two songs from that time remain "Dance on a Volcano" and "Blood on the Rooftops". "Blood on the Rooftops" is such a haunting and well written song. I can't believe it was never a hit.

It's that Invisible Touch bullshit and beyond I can't stand, which is why I'm not shelling out $200+ bucks to go see them. You just know they're going to litter their set with mostly IT & We Can't Dance radio droppings and toss in a "Turn it On Again", a Collins solo or Mike and the Mechanics solo or "Misunderstanding" for good measure. Then they'll play all the Trick of a Tail and Wind and Wuthering stuff in a medely. PFFFFFFFFT.

Plus, I'm sorry, but I was REALLY hoping they'd tour with Gabriel. I know that was a time when they weren't all that popular, but at least then we'd be able to hear some old stuff and solos from all parties involved. But I know it can never happen, as both acts are too big for one arena.

6. Sounds like Gabriel was the one who kibboshed any real "reunion"
although he apparently was receptive to the idea for a while. If Hackett was actually even being considered his participation was discarded after Gabriel bowed out.

As far as the Phil years, the only album of Genesis that I consider to be indistinguishable from Phil Collins solo work is Invisible Touch. Outside of the middle section of Tonight x3 and the final track, you could have put Phil's name on the jacket instead of Genesis and no-one would have thought any different if they didn't look at the musician credits.

Granted, the band seemed to be stretching out again on the We Can't Dance album but by that time I think the band had become nothing more than Phil's side project/backing band vs. an actual distinctive creative unit in their own right.

7. Genesis was a good progrock band, up through...
Selling England by The Pound. After that album the band went straight to hell.
