Yay...my students loved Gattaca
First time I ever showed a movie in class. Felt like there was a good chance they'd find it boring for "sci-fi." But they really got into it and, based upon discussion, they've made me glad we watched it.

1. My dear darkstar.......
Good for you, showing them that one!

What grade are they?

It is a very thought-provoking film, to be sure!

Using it to set up persuasion essay, i.e. "looming issue" oriented--tracking chips in kids, trait selection, emerging security measures, etc--so that 1)they can't be too emotionally attached and 2) they don't confuse reporting facts w/ presentation of more substantive arguments.

thanx for saying hello--too cool

4. I thought it was a brilliant movie...
... that wasn't given the credit it was due.

My favorite part was how they juxtaposed the eugenic ideals with a popular culture that resembled America in the idealistic 1950's.

5. Yeah, we didn't really discuss that aspect
but that collective submersion of individuality was perfect w/ the mid-century aesthetics.

9. It was a good/great movie,
my wife had to watch it for one of her...hmm, like Business Ethics classes, which meant I watched it to(she is taking online classes). I was surprised at how good it was...I always thought it looked like a waste of a movie....

:D
