I like late 70's and early 80's punk, pretty much directly influnced by late 60's garage.

5. I'd have to say, for the most part,

it's the power. I like the "kick you in the teeth" style of punk. Something, and I may be off base, that garage seems to be lacking. Anyway, I'm going to bed, PM me if I'm wrong. Gotta work in the morning...

9. It comes down to opinion- I think a lot of 60's punk rocks as hard as anything from the 70's.

The guitars and the vocals in 70's punk are often (but not always) louder than 60's punk, I'll give you that.

For the more hard-core stuff, you have a point.

I enjoy them both...

Huge; one of the shows on my station is devoted to that era, more or less. The Wailers, Mouse And The Traps, The State Of Mind etc; that was a great time for music...

14. No kidding- try pricing them in MONO if you dare.

If you think the stereos ae hard to find, dont even think about he mono copies.

They have re-released the stereos, but i wish they would put out the mono mixes too.

You can get a mono "Youre Gonna Miss Me" off the Nuggets Box set- but I'd love to get the whole 1st record in that format...

yeah- I've seen some of the Elevator's You-Tubes- very fun...

16. I have a prized possession

a tape that bassist Danny Galindo made for me quite a few years ago that he recorded off of his original albums that he still had. Kind of scratchy and not the best quality, but still I'm very glad to have it. I do also have the CDs which I love to listen to. I used to see Roky and the Elevators perform at the University of Houston and other places around Houston in '67-68.

19. I missed the SF show- it sold out before I could get tix- but yes- by all accounts he is well.

I'm sure you can do a google and find some recent articles about him- everyone says he is doing great anf that the shows are fun.

20. Those guys in Chip Douglas's band are known as The Palace Guard.

And they are pretty good-they had legit recordings without him- and were Sunset Strip regulars. "Falling Sugar" was a minor hit for them.

Those TV moments you mention are kind of the idea though- before the corporations completetly took over, a huge percentage of Rock & Roll music was made by teens and put out by local, independent labels- some of it even made the charts, becuase DJs used to get to choose the records they liked- then larger distributors would pick them up.

NOW everything is Top down- no more garage bands on the charts- only corporate/focus tested approved rock.

"Garage" hits you might remember include The Electric Prunes "I had Too Much to Dream last Night" or the Standells "Dirty Water"- just to give you idea of what the sub-genre is.

23. No doubt about it. Fantastic radio show- he also plays modern stuff.

You are right- probably the best intro to the genre one can get- because he links it to Punk, modern Indie Rock, etc.

Little Steven is a National Treasure and folk hero as far as I'm concerned. I listen to those archives you mention almost every day at work...
