So, I'm moving into a new apartment this fall
I'll graduate in June, and will be working for a year before going to grad school. I'm living with 2 of my friends, and one of their girlfriends. The lease is signed, blah blah, everything. And then, last night, the gf drops this on us: she's pregnant. They don't use condoms, and she doesn't like having to take birth control, and whoops, who would have thought this would happen.

AGHHHHH :grr:

She's due in November, so I'm going to have to spend the next year with a newborn that's not even my own. I guess I'll have to deal, but good God, it will suck. Yeah, it sucks more for them, but I gotta look out for number 1 sometimes...

I'm supposed to keep it a secret for now, so I needed to rant SOMEWHERE, and where else is better than DU?

1. You might surprise yourself and discover that you really
enjoy having a baby around. They're amazing little monsters.

You might even end up helping her with the baby. That would be really nice of you. :)

2. oh, i intend to help
but my life was already stressful enough without a newborn :)

It may turn out that the baby sleeps like a rock, and will learn to play backgammon by 6 weeks, so it could turn out alright...

3. Newborns are pretty quiet.
Unless they are sick, hungry or wet. Never mind.

The bright side is you should be out of there before the baby hits the toddler stage. Newborns don't leave toys out to trip over and they leave your stuff alone.

Good luck. :)

4. It'll be okay.
I'll shoot you some vibes that it's a non-colicky little sprout.
As long as you're not the one having to get up with a baby at night, it'll probably be tolerable.
Don't worry!

5. luckily
it's a duplex, so there's some room. Plus, the mother and father have been cool about room arrangements, putting the baby farthest away from everyone else. And, I'm buying myself some noise-canceling head phones as soon as possible :D
