I am sick of everything in my music library.
Ever get into one of those funks where nothing quite suits you, and everything sounds tired.
Blah. I need some new tunes.

1. Go to your public library
Seriously, that's where I get a lot of my best music

4. I should really do that.
I should also go pay my fines.

10. Stay away!
They'll put you in the stockade and then throw buckets of dung at you!

They put me in the iron maiden the last time I visited, and I only owed them $8.34.

:D

11. I think I owe them about $40.
Somehow, paying library fines doesn't sting as much as, say, video store fines, though. I know they can use the money. Our library's had their funding chiseled to the bare bones. It's sickening.

16. Oh. Well you can expect to be drawn and quartered...
and your head placed on a pike in the juvenile fiction section.

Just kiddin'.

Yeah, same thing at the college where I work. Library budget chopped while athletics budget soars. You'd think that academics would be important at a state-funded college, but evidently not as important as a new football scoreboard and, later, stadium.

2. Try Shoutcast internet radio
Edited on Thu Mar-29-07 01:09 PM by sammythecat
I know the feeling.

It has hundreds of commercial free stations divied up into at least a couple dozen genres. Pick a genre, choose one and off you go. I've found lots of new music there. It's a great resource. http://www.shoutcast.com/

If you have broadband I'd stick with the ones coming in at a 128 bit rate.

Radio Paradise is good too although it narrows it's focus to "eclectic rock". http://www.radioparadise.com/

There's an ocean of music out there. It amazes me. :)

13. Hmmm...
Alternative, punk, classic rock, foremost.
The only genres I really dislike are country, rap, r&b, pop, and top-40 crap

Not necessarily what you hear on top 40, though. I like some top 40, but didn't mention it, as anyone can hear it.

21. I guess the term would be "art punk."
Punk sensibility (the album's from '77), sometimes cryptic/deep lyrics, but with amazing guitar work, particularly for a punk band.

The title track is over 10 minutes long and is considered the Stairway to Heaven of punk music by some people, though the whole album is great.

A good mix of hard-charging tracks with a few softer ballad-type songs thrown in, too.

20. The Dischord well has never run dry for me.
Here's Ian's download page:

http://www.dischord.com/downloads

My favorites are still Dag Nasty, Government Issue, Marginal Man, and Scream, all bands I grew up with and (with the exception of Dag, which I somehow missed) watched regularly. Dischord has the best Dag Nasty and Scream compilations as well as the best Marginal Man EP, Identity. Government Issue is a little harder to find these days, but there is a great set of discs called "Complete History" which has pretty much everything they ever did in the studio. Since Ian Mackaye isn't in it for the money, most of the cds are twelve bucks.

And, since this was stuck on my clipboard when I wrote this, here's something you won't want to hear or see again, ever:

25. What? You never heard of illegal downloading?
If you don't want to take chances, here's an article to help you find legal downloads. IMHO bit torrent is the way to go for downloading.
