'Big Fish' in Controversial Splash at Box Office
By Dean Goodman
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Something smelled fishy at the North American box office this weekend.

In a claim disputed by several studios, director Tim Burton's family fable "Big Fish" reeled in the No. 1 spot in its first weekend of wide release by selling $14.5 million worth of tickets, according to estimates issued on Sunday by its distributor, Columbia Pictures.

Big Fish a splash!

1. I saw it yesterday
with my two kids. The theater was full at an afternoon show.

I've been waiting for it to get to my burg since before Christmas.

Also looking forward to the new Coen brothers movie that was advertised before Big Fish, and the new one from Charlie Kaufman.

I hope Burton blasts all the big studio movies back to Palookaville with his new release.

2. My son & I went 2 C it
It was particularly poignant 4 him since his Dad died 6 months ago.

Good movie but then I'm a Tim Burton fan.
