Anybody remember music videos on MTV?

Seriously. That's all they used to show. Music videos, 24/7/365. Hence, "Music Television".

Somewhere along the line, a shark looked up and saw a cable channel sailing over its head...

1. I stopped watching MTV about 13 or 14 years ago

once the rock videos went away and it became all hip hop and rap (I'm not into that kind of music) then all the shows came on after that, I said ba-bye.

I fully expect to hear this from a young person in the next five to ten years, so I'm steeling myself for it now.

5. Yes. I was 15 when MTV debuted.

I still love the sound of that bumper music.

I miss that channel.

6. I remember spending the whole day waiting for the "Top of the Hour" so

I could see the latest Wham! video. Especially "Freedom". God, I loved Wham!

I loved it when it was mostly music videos with some music news thrown in.

9. I can't believe that it's come to this.

In the early 80's the music videos were at the cutting edge of pop culture. In 30 short years it has seen it's glory days, changed the way we listened to music, and is now a "remember when". God, does that ever make me feel old. My favorite video was "Her Name was Reo" by Duran Duran.

10. "Rio" is still one of my favorite videos.

Along with "Hungry Like The Wolf" - when I listen to both of those songs I can still fill the intensity and I get taken back to memories of watching them on MTV.

11. One of MTV's founders has now started TubeTV. It's nothing but videos.

They run maybe two commercials an hour, and it's a mix of old and current videos. It's one of my favorite cable channels.
