30 hours without a cigarette....
Spur of the moment, yesterday, I decided to quit. Still hanging in there, and have only administered minor beatings to the cat.

9. I done the same thing on November 19,1981
One day I just decided to quit and through away 2 full cartons and never touched one since. I must say after 25 years I still get a craving for one every now and then. Just don't give up you made it through the first day, each one will get easier.

12. the first week is hardest
i quit spur of the moment, cold turkey. i lasted 9 months without a single puff. only reason i started back up again was because i got arrested and had to start going through the court system and couldnt deal with the stress.

staying away from the habits you associate with smoking is best- i see upthread you are doing that. good luck! you'll feel tons better in just a short while.

14. Good luck!
The first few days are the worst. I first quit in the summer of 2005, started again in February 2006 and quit again in May 2006. I've been pretty much smoke free since then. I have cheated a few times because I've gone through some really shitty things lately but I smoke half a cigarette and want to die. Yuck.

15. It's a great spur
of the moment decision that you made. Your body is going to thank you for it, well that is, after the initial shock.

Wishing you all the luck and success that I can throw your way.

16. That's the same way I quit
It was tough for a couple of days, then days became weeks.

"I don't want to have to go through that again." - that's the thought that keeps me from smoking even one.

Good luck with it.

You can always replace the cat. (actually, they're pretty resilient, and don't seem to mind the occasional boot  )

19. The first three days are brutal
But once you get past that you will find it easier.

Make it to 10 days and then just remember "Don't give back those days"

24. Keep it up!
It will be a year May 1st for me. I smoked my last one on my trip to Ireland last year. Whenever I want one I think of that last ciggie in front of the pub and it stops me. Whatever works. After about 13 days you should be nic free then it is a metal battle.

33. Just think....
Better long term health---more money in your pocket---more convenient not to smoke---you won't get sick as often---when you do get sick, it won't take as long to get well---you clothes and house won't smell like an ashtray. So many reasons to quit and few to keep smoking. Good for you!

Cat hiding behind the washing machine. Dog telling me to stay in bed, he'll fix his own meals. Otherwise, all is well.
