I am in the midst of an argument re:choice. Apparently it's okay for women's rights (choice, specifically, and gay rights probably, although this wasn't part of the current argument) in order to win votes in the South or the West or where ever it might be politically expedient to do so.

Okay, maybe I just need more wine.

1. That is a hot button issue

There's a lot of intensity and feeling wherever a person stands on that issue. I'm with you on this tonight. Kick back with some wine and leave the struggle to those in a fighting mood.

I guess it was the wine talking. but I meant to say (not sure if I can edit it now), that apparently it's okay to throw women's rights under the bus to win votes, in the south or anywhere else.

4. The Absurd Thing About It All

is that if the repukes ever really went after choice, or more accurately made abortion illegal... they would lose one of the two only issues they have to hook the ignorant and gullible!

then what would they have left except gay rights, or gay issues... and portraying everything as about that...

throwing away choice would be a mistake for the democratic party period.

pushing it to the forefront would be a way to make the repukes show their cards... which they cannot afford to do

5. I should know better than to argue about things that are personal

to me. Many political strategists and others see it as a game, just to win votes. Win at any and all costs. I disagree as a voter. Human rights (and I am way on the liberal side of the spectrum here) are vital and not bargaining chips.

Ah well, time to relax and stop arguing.

i'm on your side and i don't like life being made a political issue (not life as in pro life, just life in general- gay rights, choice, all rights, etc.)

3. I had stayed out for nearly a week, but went back in earlier...

five minutes later, I got in to it with another DU'er. I'm here to stay, except for breaking news. I refuse to discuss anything general, anymore.

And I never start threads in GD especially. There are certain hot-button issues I ought to just stay away from, for my mental health.
