Am I the only one that thinks this song by Blue Oyster Cult is outrageously imaginative?
Wish I could find it on youtube. It's a really good rock and roll song about a very unusual subject. Hope you all like it!

ME 262

Goering's on the phone to Freiburg
Say's Willie's done quite a job
Hitler's on the phone from Berlin
Say's I'm gonna make you a star

My Captain Von Ondine, here's your next patrol
A flight of English bombers across the canal
After twelve, they'll all be here
I think you know the job

They hung there dependant from the sky
Like some heavy metal fruit
These bombers, ripened, ready to tilt
Must these Englishmen live that I might die
Must they live that I might die

In a G-load disaster from the rate of climb
Sometimes I'd faint and be lost to our side
But there's no reward for failure, but death
So watch me in the mirrors, keep in the glidepath

Get me through these radars, no I cannot fail
Not when great silver slugs are eager to feed
I can't fail, no not now
When twenty five bombers wait ripe

They hung there dependant from the sky
Like some heavy metal fruit
These bombers, ripened, ready to tilt
Must these Englishmen live that I might die
Must they live that I might die

Me-262 prince of turbojet, Junker's jommo 004
Blasts from clustered R4M quartets in my snout
And see these English planes go burn
Now you be my witness how red were the skies
When the fortresses flow, for the very last time
It was dark over Westphalia, in april of T45

They hung there dependant from the sky
Like some heavy metal fruit
These bombers, ripened, ready to tilt
Must these Englishmen live that I might die
Must they live that I might die

Must these Englishmen live that I might die
Junker.s jommo 004 (repeat many times)
Bombers at 12 o'clock high

3. BOC is, IMHO, one of the most underrated groups of all time
They have a lot of cool songs like that. It's too bad we can't hear the music to this one.

4. I actually did a Google search and downloaded Rhapsody to listen to it
They have a free trial offer of 25 songs, I think. I probably won't use it much but I was Jonesing last night and needed my BOC fix.

6. Rhapsody is a good deal if you love listening to music

They don't have *everything*, of course (no Beatles), but I'm frequently surprised and pleased to find what they do have. And you get to hear the whole song, usually. Only a limited amount have 30 second limits on them.

5. one side if the live album had this song, Cities in Flame and Last Days of May
my all time 'best side of album'. they are monster done live.

some poetic license going on in the lyrics. Me-262 is a real plane, the first combat operational jet fighter. the R4M were AtA rockets hung on the wing. there were 4 30mm cannons 'in the snout' also 'jommo' is Jumo for the Jumo 004 jet engine the plane used.

7. My favorite band...........
I have been listening to BÖC since I was 14! I was hooked on the spectacular musicianship, crazy cool album art and the great lyrics!

Maybe I should bring back my BÖC avatar.

8. You can always ask LynneSin if you need more cowbell!
I think I started listening back then too. On Your Feet or On Your Knees was the first BOC 8-track that I owned. When that wore out I replaced it with another 8-track and then I bought it on album and then CD. I even started drinking warm Heineken when I found out that BOC required it in their dressing room when they were on tour. It's great to know that they are still defying the Reaper after 30 years!

9. They're playing a free show this summer........
at the local biker fest. Finally I'll get to replace my threadbare, second-hand, 20-yr old BÖC T-shirt w/ a spankin' new one!

I got to 'em a little after the 8-track days. My first real experience was my cool uncle Kevin's "ETI Live" LP in 1980 or so. At first I was sorta intimidated as I was going through an early adolescent Beatles phase and BÖC's heaviness felt somewhat alien and evil to me, but Buck's guitar solo from "Cities On Flame" kept rattling around in my head until I finally had to submit. Since then BÖC has been ubiquitous get-together music for my buddies and myself.

10. Sounds like it'll be fun. They aren't getting too close to VA this year
Morgantown, WV and Frederick, MD are as close as they get so far. I'll keep checking. Cities on Flame is a great song but my favorite guitar piece of theirs has always been Buck's Boogie.
