Why?

1. I have mine... but that's because I have never bothered to buy a new one.
I live in California and I've seen some pretty stupid shit on vanity license plate frames, so that doesn't concern me a whole lot.

2. Laziness. I've still got mine.
I'd have to go buy a new one, take off the old one, put on the new one... all that stuff. Basically, I don't care enough to bother.

3. Not me.
I asked for it to be removed before I took possession. I told them not to put that dealer emblem on the car either.

4. I have never understood those dealer emblems I've seen
in other states!

I've always thought, why do they do that? It ruins the car.

No dealer emblems in California. I'm not sure why we don't do it, but I'm glad! :)

7. I don't like them.
The salesperson was shocked that I asked for it not to be put on there. He said he had never had that request before & just couldn't understand why I didn't want it.

I told him they weren't paying me to advertise for them and I wasn't going to do it for free.

I didn't know California dealers didn't use them, I thought everyone did it for the free advertising.

13. Nope....we just have the license plate frames, which I've
taken off my past couple of new cars.

I agree with you....they're not paying me to advertise for them, so why should I?

25. my father always stipulated that they couldn't put one on any car he bought.
he said that they weren't paying him to be their billboard, so he wasn't going to be one.

the 3-d metal ones that are riveted on are the worst- it's where the rust-through usually starts.

22. We did the same
My husband jokingly told the salesperson that he'd be happy to keep it on the car if they paid him for the advertising services.

5. We ALWAYS remove ours!
Ick......just ick!

Strictly speaking, you don't need them...

There are holes in the car to screw the plates into...

And that's what we use!

6. No plate frame, but they have the dealer sticker
Both from the same place. Unlike many you see, it's a small unobtrusive one, so it doesn't bother us.

9. I do it, because I am cheap.
Even if I had the money to spend on a vanity plate, I probably wouldn't. Unless I had a real good reason to be unhappy with the dealer for some reason, I wouldn't see the need to spend money to change the license plate frame. To me, it's no big deal.

10. Or...you could take the frame off...
You don't have to spend money to do that. All you have to do is take out and screw back in a couple of screws.

why didn't you say that in the first place? I left my dealer plate on until I moved to Minnesota. Now there's no frame on my plates.

24. Because it was more fun to work my way toward the
laziness part. That way the second impression I made was lazy and the first impression was cheap. So, people now know I'm cheap and lazy in that order. I guess I could get a screwdriver and take it off, but it's still not a pressing issue.

If the word "Texas" or any part of the plate is obscured, you CAN get a ticket for that. I took my frames off.

i mean- there's a standard size for plates in this country- is it really that difficult to make the holders the correct size?

27. Nope. The first thing I do is replace the license plate frame.
I don't want to let the world know where I was last ripped off.

I'd take the logos of the manufacturer off if I could. Same with clothes and shoes. I'm not some company's unpaid sandwichboard man.

on so I don't have to have that stupid frame on my car. Probably the same people that put those stupid fish symbols on their car. The only thing I've noticed about the fish people is they all drive like idiots.

31. Of course they drive like idiots.
The Lord is watching over them and their fate is in God's hands, so there's nothing they can actually do themselves to improve their chances of survival. So they sit back, relax and twiddle the wheel and pedals whenever the mood takes them.

It says the name of the dealer and all and if I didn't keep that one on, I would probably not buy another one and I think it looks better with the plate on.

35. Dishwashing liquid + dental floss = no glued-on emblems
When I bought my first car, I stated, "No dealer emblem on the car!" Of course, when I picked up the car, there it was. Knowing this was a possibility, I had a small bottle of dishwashing liquid and some dental floss with me. After loud complaining to my salesguy, I soaked the emblem in Dawn and sawed it off with the dental floss right in front of the guy, and dropped it at his feet (it's the best way to remove those glue-on emblems from your car. I also remove the car's model number/ID from the back of car - I like 'em "shaved." Oooh, that last bit sounds kinda racy, doesn't it?).

I guess they know they're the only Saturn dealer in town.

However, if they had put one on, I'd leave it there. The family that owns the dealership is very generous with many of the organizations I belong to.
