It's Cherry Blossom Time in your Nation's Capital!
Edited on Sat Mar-31-07 11:21 AM by Penndems
The National Cherry Blossom Festival starts today, and runs through April 15th: http://www.nationalcherryblossomfestival.org/cms/index.php?id=390

The blossoms will be in full bloom from April 3-5 . . .

The cherry blossom trees were gifted to the United States by Japan ninety-five years ago . . .

The Ceremonial Lantern, a gift from Japan in 1951 that symbolizes friendship, will be lit on Sunday April 8th . . .

The festival concludes with the National Cherry Blossom Parade on Saturday, April 14th:

The Smithsonian Kite Festival starts today, too:

. . . and the White House Easter Egg Roll on Monday, April 9th:

2. The Jefferson, Lincoln and FDR Memorials surrounded by cherry trees . . .

Blossoms floating in the Tidal Basin. . .

Tourists coming to D.C. The warm spring air, with a touch of crispness.

The joy in the faces of the children rolling eggs down the White House lawn, their loved ones happily cheering for them.

That's what I love about the Nation's Capital at this time of year. :)

4. Come to D.C. - we'd love to have you here!
The best times to visit are spring and fall. The weather is just perfect.

5. I hope my IR filter comes in soon; I wanna see how the local cherry blossoms will look
when under IR exposure...

(I only bought the 55mm lens; the 62mm lens was more than twice as much. :hurts: )

The 55mm will capture those soft pinks and vibrant reds to a "T"!
