I don't want to go back to work on Monday

I have been on vacation this week and I have realized that I hate my job with a passion. Actually I take that back- I hate my coworkers, at least some of them. One of them is just about the biggest asshole anyone could ever meet. He does whatever the hell he wants and nobody has ever called him on it. If I were his boss, he would have been gone a long time ago. When I first got there, he made all kinds of crude remarks (not about me, but off-color just the same). I went to the boss and he finally got him to stop doing that at least. No, he is mostly just a very crude person who runs rough-shod over others. It is bad enough that when we have interns in the summer (usually college or grad students), we do not allow them to work with him alone. That is not because of any fear of sexual harassment; it is just because he is so rough around the edges. Now I thought I was stubborn but this guy takes the cake. I have always been sort of timid but am learning (finally after all these years) to stand up for myself. I stand up to this guy and he sarcastically calls me "boss". I am not the only one he does this to either. I just don't understand how people like this manage to keep jobs for nearly 30 years. No concept of teamwork. I have to complain about the division of labor to my boss all the time too. He will listen and nod but ultimately doesn't do much or doesn't succeed at it. He's a hell of a nice guy, my boss but I think he might be too nice.

The problem is that I have had it up to here with him but there is no end in sight. I have applied for other jobs, to no avail so far. It makes my stomach hurt to think about going back to work after a vacation.

Just tell the rude co-worker to fuck off. If he's rough around the edges he will understand that kind of talk.

Go looking for that new job, but do not take a step down from where you are at right now just because of some dickhead. Hang in there until you get an offer that is truly a step forward.

I have come very, very close.

And you are right, life is too short to put up with this crap. And I look for other jobs all the time. Never get them; a lot of competition in my field.

I have to figure out a way not to let stuff like this get under my skin.

I mean you've tried many times now to make him aware of the problems

and he's not succeeded in doing anything about it.

I'd go over his head and roll the dice...

sometimes I have threatened to call HR (on the guy, not my boss) and that usually shuts him up for a while.

It's a pain to work with assholes, I recently had a situation where there was a big one and he's now GONE and part of that is because of several people taking a stand and getting the management to do something about it.

Pretty damned amazing too considering that the asshole was an M.D., and there was a day and time when that pretty well guaranteed one could get away with just about anything.

It describes that no matter how productive a negative employee is, get rid of them as they make a dozens of equally productive employees quit or less productive by causing bas attitudes throughout the entire work place.

7. I need to read that

We are a small office (8 people, although 2 actually don't work directly with the rest of us). Some of the people have been working with him over 20 years. I hear complaints from them too and I just don't why nothing has been done and why there are no consequences for his actions.
