Sanjaya the next American Idol....?
I'm sick and tired of hearing about him on every single news show and I guess I'm flaming the Sanjaya fire by bringing him up again.

Here's my story... and I'm sticking to it:

Last year my wife and I started watching American Idol. We were never really big on TV especially since our son was always watching it. One night we tore him away from the TV so we could watch something other than "elmo". That's where our American Idol addiction started.

Week after week, we would kind of grade each singer and from time to time we wondered why some singers would not be voted off. Last year we couldn't wait for Brenna to get voted off but she made it for about two or three extra weeks and we were glad when she finally did get voted off. We basically had it pegged, we figured Chris, Taylor and Katherine and were surprised when Chris went a bit earlier. I like Taylor, knew he had a big following but Katherine was the better singer to me.

This year, We graded like we normally would (Come on, Melinda Doolittle is the one for me this year!) but each week our bottom ranked singers remained. Sanjaya has been on the bottom of the list so long... last week was the first time we did not watch it. I don't think it's Sanjaya it's just that the talent this year is no where near what they had last year.... except for Melinda! Melinda! Although sometimes I wonder if her modesty is just an act but I think she is very polite, so perhaps she is modest.

Sanjaya is the ultimate joke at this point and I think that has people rooting for the under dog. As it is, there are sites that are encouraging people to vote for the loser.

Will this loser become the winner? In a way, I hope not. There are people more deserving and talented than him. HOWEVER... What is an American Idol? Is it someone who has a ton of people behind them? I didn't think Taylor was the best singer last year but he is the reigning American Idol thanks to his following. But still, Sanjaya is no Taylor Hicks!

It is the media though that is drawing attention to this "loser" and people are starting to bet on that underdog to be the winner. We still have several weeks to go and to be honest, I vote once and I vote for the best singer of the night. When I hear how people vote like 2000 times by texting their votes or calling again and again for their "idol", to me, much like the Sanjaya fiasco, it makes me view the show as lame. HOWEVER... My favorites this season are Blake, Melinda and maybe Jordan Sparks. Here's hoping the most talented go on to the later rounds of the finals.

where my 'editorial' should go. But if it goes to the lounge, I won't mind.

6. The real winners are the ones who don't win. Take Jennifer Hudson.
I hope Sanjaya wins. Then Simon will quit and someone else can do a better idol inspired show.

8. exactly... get the exposure, then leave...
If you're truly talented, the worst thing that can happen to you--in a way--is for you to actually win, since you'd then be contractually obligated to Simon Fuller and that whole bunch. If you come in second or even lower, though, you get the exposure, a fan base, and your pick of several different contracts.

It worked out for Kelly Clarkson because she is so talented and was the first one especially, that her success legitimized American Idol, so they owe her more than she owes them. Had Justin Guarini won, he would've put out a clunker album, people would've seen American Idol as pointless, and we would've had two seasons of American Idol at the most.

If Melinda really is that talented, you should hope that she loses to Sanjaya, so she'll be free to sign her choice of contracts and American Idol will finally end.

KEEP THAT F***ING IDOL GARBAGE OUT OF HERE; it's bad enough you have to make celebrities out of half-talents and f***ing assholes like Simon but at the very least please keep that crap out of HERE.

14. sorry, I didn't grow up in a trailer so really don't understand
what you are saying. Even after commenting on your language you still resort to using immature language so I'm going to place you on ignore.

You have a nice day and hopefully you can learn to use the english language in a constructive way. Anger management may not be a bad suggestion either.

15. Easy on the classism
You shouldn't invoke people who live in trailers in such a way. We need to practice anti-classism much more here at DU.

16. But...
...."half-talents and f***ing assholes" is ok?

It's too bad some people have to raise their self esteem at the expense of others.

18. Excuse me, but what do you mean by that remark
that you didn't grow up in a trailer? I am a mobile home dweller and most of us are not illiterate, foul-mouthed, ignorant redneck Republicans.

17. Please point out how casual subjects like tv shows work in a political forum

like "Editorials & Other Articles."

These threads concern, as a DU'er pointed out already, published articles concerning POLITICAL topics.

On edit:

As a suggestion, take a look around at all the other threads in this section, as a guideline, if it helps.

19. I think the number of people playing this game
has got to be less than the number of people who would be happy to see one of the truly talented ones win. Sooner or later the numbers will get to the point where Sanjaya will be gone. I'm voting for Blake, Melinda, and Phil till then.

And there are some people at DU who don't like AI, but they don't have the right to tell the rest of us what to post about, what television shows to watch, or what to like and dislike. It makes the Lounge as obnoxious as GD in its own way.
