I'm sick and tired of hearing about him on every single news show and I guess I'm flaming the Sanjaya fire by bringing him up again.
Here's my story... and I'm sticking to it:
Last year my wife and I started watching American Idol. We were never really big on TV especially since our son was always watching it. One night we tore him away from the TV so we could watch something other than "elmo". That's where our American Idol addiction started.
Week after week, we would kind of grade each singer and from time to time we wondered why some singers would not be voted off. Last year we couldn't wait for Brenna to get voted off but she made it for about two or three extra weeks and we were glad when she finally did get voted off. We basically had it pegged, we figured Chris, Taylor and Katherine and were surprised when Chris went a bit earlier. I like Taylor, knew he had a big following but Katherine was the better singer to me.
This year, We graded like we normally would (Come on, Melinda Doolittle is the one for me this year!) but each week our bottom ranked singers remained. Sanjaya has been on the bottom of the list so long... last week was the first time we did not watch it. I don't think it's Sanjaya it's just that the talent this year is no where near what they had last year.... except for Melinda! Melinda! Although sometimes I wonder if her modesty is just an act but I think she is very polite, so perhaps she is modest.
Sanjaya is the ultimate joke at this point and I think that has people rooting for the under dog. As it is, there are sites that are encouraging people to vote for the loser.
Will this loser become the winner? In a way, I hope not. There are people more deserving and talented than him. HOWEVER... What is an American Idol? Is it someone who has a ton of people behind them? I didn't think Taylor was the best singer last year but he is the reigning American Idol thanks to his following. But still, Sanjaya is no Taylor Hicks!
It is the media though that is drawing attention to this "loser" and people are starting to bet on that underdog to be the winner. We still have several weeks to go and to be honest, I vote once and I vote for the best singer of the night. When I hear how people vote like 2000 times by texting their votes or calling again and again for their "idol", to me, much like the Sanjaya fiasco, it makes me view the show as lame. HOWEVER... My favorites this season are Blake, Melinda and maybe Jordan Sparks. Here's hoping the most talented go on to the later rounds of the finals.
