Whatever happened to Tuffskins jeans? When I was young every kid wore

Tuffskins. You couldn't wait to go to Sears and buy a new pair.

Levi's were for chumps. Real kids wore Tuffskins.

They had linings inside where your knees were to help prevent wearing holes in the knees. After repeated washings these linings would crack a peel up a little and rub your knees raw. Made you tougher, though.

I have fond memories of wearing my Tuffskins, my Chuck Taylors and t-shirts with iron-ons while riding my metallic green bike with banana seat and butterfly handlebars.

I think they should bring back Tuffskins (minus the knee linings).

My brothers wore Tuffskins. It used to be kids wore clothes. Now they make fashion statements. I remember having arguments with my daughter when she was 13 (she is now 26) about her wanting $50 jeans.

Sounds just like what I used to wear, except that my banana seat was a metallic flake purple (with a sissy bar TYVM), and I preferred the PF Flyers to the Chuck Taylors.

Every year when school would start, mom would take me to Sears to get a few pair. I wore last year's (if they still fit) as cutoffs or to play in.

The Tuffskin kids woulda died to have "real" jeans. Tuffskins didn't fade, and stayed relatively stiff as a board throughout their life. Us kids had to have soft comfy jeans that *faded*, not plasticized imitation jeans from hell.

I wore Chuck Taylors (high tops, had to be!) as well as the good old "flag" shoes that were so hip and trendy back then.

They were so stiff that they had no give, so they actually ripped easier than other jeans. Luckily my folks figured this out quickly, so I could leave the Tuffskin life behind for Lee cords and Levis.

11. When I was a kid, the coolest kids, ages 5-8, wore HUGE

rectangular patches on the knees of their jeans. For maximum points, they contrasted highly with the denim of your jeans. I had a pair of dark green jeans with bright yellow patches on the knees. That was cool; showed the other kids you got down and rocked when you were playing.

jeans so "comfy" they required patches..and yes, in contrasting colors. However, "iron-on" patches we the ultimte in uncool....they had to be sewn on.

I had skinny boys and could order jeans that wore well and actually fit..

Of course , around 3rd grade, they started wanting "cool jeans", so as a treat , they would get a few pair of their choosing, but they had to wear the Tuffskins when they went outside to play..

We had a rule at our house.. If you wear a hole in them before they are too short, you don't get a replacement pair, unless they used their own "gift money".. Same for shoes..

Of course they complained to their Grandma about how mean we were... that we made them spend birthday money to buy their own clothes :pity:
