Seeing the Dead at The Gorge (Wash.): Q's on venue, camping
Hey, I got tickets to see the Dead at the Gorge Amphitheater in George, Washington on September 21.

They have camping at the venue -- but for $30 a person!

Does anyone have any insight about where a person can stay (camp) in those parts?

Also.....my seats are reserved (folding chairs) in Row 32, Sec C (basically, left side...but toward the CENTER of the stadium).

If you have reserved seats -- can you go back to the lawn area at will? And better yet, do people tend to dance in place? (seems like with folding chairs you could just fold it and have a little 3x3 mini dance floor.

I don't know...I am excited......I have never seen the Dead before (I got to see Phil Lesh & Friends last year and LOVED IT! Esp their version of Strawberry Fields!). And I have never been to the Gorge Amphitheater.

If you have been and have any words of wisdom or great tales to tell....please share!

It's right on the Columbia River..is there any camping on the river???

1. I think there are some places in Vantage
Which is not too far away. At least that was the case when I saw Dylan there back in the late '80s.

Be forewarned, however, traffic is HORRID around there - you might find that the $30 is $ well spent after two hours of trying to get back onto the road from the parking lot! Just a thought.

Yes, at one point, you could go back on the lawn. At least, that's the last I heard about it. I'm sure they'll be cool with that at a Dead show.

It's a breathtakingly beautiful venue - you will have a great time.

It looks pretty great..and it would seem the party would start early THERE and end late THERE..... kind of a festival atmosphere.....

And camping would be at least $20 ...so an extra $10 isn't too much to ask.....

I actually stayed in Vantage the first time I drove across Washington. Stayed at the KOA up there on the hill ...... in a kamping kabin. I thought...man.....they need to replace their curtains in here. They are just shredded!

That night.....the WIND came in.....and I felt like Dorothy! Those drapes were probably only 2 weeks old given the beating they get at night from the wind.......nah, I think it was a cyclone! LOL

It *is* so beautiful!!!
