So Hubby busts six ribs during a coughing fit...
*sigh*
Poor guy. We found out a few weeks ago that he had allergies, probably to the cats, and we were pretty sure he had asthma as well. He's been having terrible trouble breathing at night, and has been coughing a lot, and his sides have been just aching. So when he was about to have a major coughing jag last Wednesday night, he tensed up anticipating the pain, and fractured six ribs in the process...
Holy shit.
So now he's on Advair and Vicodin and Allegra-D and ice packs and propped up on pillows, and whenever he does cough or sneeze it's pretty nasty. At least when he does, it's usually only once or twice, not for ten minutes at a time. And he's breathing well enough to be able to get some sleep, which is a blessing, for both of us, since if he's not sleeping, I'm probably not sleeping.

The GOOD thing is he's finally gonna have to let me drive his beloved lawnmower, *lol* Lucky me.

I have broken ribs coughing and it hurts like hell. He has my sympathy.

Enjoy the lawnmower ride!

3. *lol* I will! We just got a new John Deere last year and it's his pride and joy
(next to the damn cats to which he is now allergic!) and he's pretty protective of it.
And even here in Minnesota, mowing season will probably be here before he's in any shape to drive it.
I TOLD him last year that he had better show me all the ins and outs of the new baby, just in case, and he kept putting it off...

Ah well. I'll figure it out. :-)

2. Ouch! Poor thing.
 <-- virtual and very gentle, of course, so as not to hurt his ribs any more ;)

Seriously, I hope he feels better soon and that his ribs heal up nicely.

5. Thank you! If I can just get him to really take it easy and LET THEM HEAL
he'll probably do fine. But he LOVES the outdoors and this time of year it's so damn hard to keep him down. He had flesh-eating bacteria three years ago and had 8 surgeries in 9 months and was housebound for yonks and it was torture...so as soon as he starts feeling even a little better he starts doing shit he shouldn't and then sets himself back.

So I am going to have to beat him into submission *lol* and just MAKE him stay in bed!

8. *lol* The hugs do have to be VERY gentle! The Scrabble whallopings, on
the other hand, can still be as brutal as necessary.
SarahBellum creamed us both tonight *lol*

12. The Doc said it was because he tensed up so; it sounded like chicken bones
snapping. It was really weird (for me) and I can't imagine how painful it was for him! He was in tears with pain and I was in tears of helplessness not knowing what to do to help him. I hate that.
But he's doing much better and he'll be fine! :-)

13. Ouch! Poor guy!
I injured my ribs recently and it is really painful. I never got an exray so I don't know what the damage was, just know it hurts like hell and it is very hard to get comfortable enough to sleep. A month later I am much, much better. I hope your poor guy feels better soon, he has my sympathy.

17. There's stuff you can wipe on the cats with a damp washcloth
Edited on Sat Apr-14-07 11:50 PM by barb162
called Allerpet / C. It works (!) by neutralizing the enzymes that cause the allergies. Hope hubby gets better soon

18. I was just reading about that the other day! I was looking up some ways to
help reduce the allergens, and had seen that name. I will have to try that, thanks! :-)

28. Ouchie. You know, it might be a good idea
for him to get tested for osteoporosis.

My dear dad has it, and it was only discovered after a similar incident.

Wishing you both a good night's sleep tonight!
