Long distance providers?
I just got a bill from my current company for $6.12. Not a big deal by any means, but this was for making NO CALLS! None! I usually use my cell phone for few long distance calls I make, but I'm not ready to dump a long-distance company completely.

Anyway.... Any suggestions for a provider that won't charge me for not using their services?

1. Here's an awesome website

You can drop long distance entirely, and just go with a 10-10 provider. Many also have plans they can add to your existing service, so you don't have to dial prefixes to use it.

We went with WorldXchange

2. I disconnected from all long distance companies. I
bought a prepaid phone card from Sam's. It averages out to 4 cents a minute. I had AT&T. There had to be a certain amount on the bill for them to send it. So I kept getting quarterly bills for $30 for 10 minutes worth of long distance calls. Then if it wasn't paid the next day, they called to find out why. Enough of the whole crap.

3. I saw a commercial for
10-10-something-or-other.... Promised the same rates for calls to Canada and Europe. I have friends and family in both places. Anyone tried it? (maybe it was 987?)

4. Working Assets?
I've been thinking of switching to their service because some of the money goes to progressive causes. Anyone have any experience with them?

7. Working Assets is a great company.
I would not say that they are cheaper than other of the the main companies, however, they support numerous progressive causes. I have used their service for years. Customer service is great too.

DOES charge you, although not much ($3.95)... and you gotta love a phone company that donates aggressively to progressive causes:

Working Assets Long Distance

Plus, don't forget the coupons for a free pint of Ben & Jerry's every month for your first year!!! :bounce:

(Edited to add: We've used them for 2 years, no complaints at all!)

6. I'm using 10-10-335
And it is the cheapest long distance I've ever had. Most of my calls are only 40 cents!

10-10-220 is only 99 cents for a 20-minute call.

The charges come right on your phone bill. No activation necessary or anything like that. You just dial it before you dial the 1-long distance number.
