18. I'm rolling up D&D characters

My brothers kid has developed an interestin Dungeons and Dragons, and my brother told him I used to play. So I roped myself into running a game for them.

I hadn't played D&D in maybe 20 years. I have played other RPGs in that time though, so I need to brush up on the latest D&D rules. Got myself a set of the new rules and started rolling up some characters to familiarize myself with them.

So, I'm rolling up characters that will never be used in playing a geeky fantasy role playing game with a group of kids whose TOTAL ages probably wont equal my own. And all the while I'm griping to myself that the old D&D rules I played with 20 years ago were better than these new fangled things.

So, not only am I geeky, but I'm a grouchy old geek. :)

Once we get the characters to a certain tile, ready for the Two Towers game, the one with the most good points wins. But anything can happen when you battle Saruman if one of us keeps running into him (we haven't yet). We're both stumbling along, trying to make sense of when the rules seem unclear or contradictory.

I am not sure I could let her win even if I tried. :-)

Figuring out the rules is all well and good, but to earn true geek points you've got to understand the rules, then OBJECT to them and make up your own.

And it wasn't on purpose! I had to battle Saruman one last time, and if I rolled a 1, we would have tied. Anything higher and I lost. There was no way to win.
