Linköping, Sweden. Cristmas 1991. King Gustav and Queen Sophie (reputedly an Australian who Gustav met in a bar, but I did not ask about that).

The King. The Queen. DemoTex.

BTW: A few more at the table too. OK, tables. OK, 1200 people in a frigging airplane hangar at the SAAB plant. But the King & Queen were there!

1. Hi DemoTex.
You got the SAAB plant and King Gustav right.
But Karl Gustav is married to Silvia, who was born in Germany.
Her mother is from Brazil.

They met at the 1972 Olympics in Munich, Germany.
It was love at first sight.

How did you end up in Linköping?

I've been there, many years ago on my first trip to
Sweden in 1958.

Hej då.

:hi:

2. Damn. Maybe I do need that hearing aid. Nor should I have repeated the bar bit.
Sorry. That was not my style, really.

I was in Linköping for a gala roll-out of a new Saab fighter jet. As the editor of an international aviation news magazine at the time, I actually had a good table close to the K&Q. What astounded me about Gustav, was how much he looks like Salman Rushdie! And this right after the fatwah over Satanic Verses!

9. There is a little resemblance there.

But I think Karl Gustav is much better looking
by a mile. ;-)

That must have been great, to see the premier of a SAAB fighter jet
AND dine with the King and Queen!
My family consists of mechanical engineers and designers ( aerospace& born in Sweden,
all of them). I'm the odd one out- born in the US and I'm in education.
We LOVE those SAAB commercials with the fighter jets.
I start crying when I see a gorgeous aircraft.
Weird, huh?

Now, I envy you.

Silvia is quite stunning.
She is very loved by the Swedish people.

11. My mom, for some reason, thinks the King looks like a bird
we were watching a special on royalty once, and she thought he looked a little bird-like.

6. No (bad link on pic)
But did I mention that Dr. D is in Stockholm tonight? She is addressing EAWOP (European Association of Work and Organizational Psychologists) this week. Lucky-duckies.

10. I have been to Linköping many times....
I worked for Sandvik for many years and have many friends all over Sweden. I used to go to Enköping quite a bit and always loved going into this little neighborhood pub. No matter what day it was or what time it was you could walk in and they would be playing some ABBA song!

The Swedes loves them some ABBA. They always want to know if they really sound like the Swedish chef also....lol

Wonderful people and a wonderful country. I was there last two years ago and was supposed to be there this month but plans got changed...:(

I never grow tired of visiting the Vasa museum or the palace musem in Stockholm.

Karl and Silvia have two hot daughters for sure...and the whole country does love them...
