Sigh. Too many dumbasses.
:yoiks: You think that college students would know the difference between a two-year degree (associate degree) and a four-year degree (bachelor's degree). I cannot tell you how many dumbass problems I've had to fix today because of incorrect answers to a simple question.

That is all. Rant over.

3. Oh I hear ya loud and clear!
Why do deadlines apply to me? What degree am I getting again? What is my major? You mean I have to pass a class to get credit for it? We are printing 5,000 commencement booklets that have to be here for the ceremonies by Friday at 10:00am...
"why can't you include me it's Tuesday at 2:56 pm you have time"

WTF!

5. Please tell me more...
Is it that students can get either one at your college, and they don't even know which one they're pursuing?

9. Nope. They can only get a bachelor's or a master's here.
Edited on Tue May-08-07 03:17 PM by NewWaveChick1981
But there is a question on a Federal application for aid that asks, "Will you have earned your first bachelor's degree by July 1, 2006?" Answering "yes" means NO Federal grants. Two transfer students with associate's degrees answered the question "yes." :eyes: So either these 19- and 20-year-old underclassmen are Doogie Howsers or they've answered the question WRONG. I've been putting the fear of Jeebus into them by calling and/or sending emails that sound very mean and tell them they must repay the aid they received if the answer is actually "yes". :P I know they don't have the four-year degree, but I want them to learn how to answer the question PROPERLY next time. Sheesh.... :yoiks:

Edited to add: I ran across nine other "yes" answers from 18-year-olds. And there are bound to be many, many more. :yoiks:

10. Oh OK
My guess is they translated it in their head as "your first college degree". And then they were scared to answer "No" on a Federal form. Those jack-booted thugs might come busting down their door, you know... :P

12. Maybe so.
But when I ask students about that question, 9 out of 10 times, the answer is, "Well, I'm WORKING on my bachelor's degree....that's why I answered yes." :P

13. Holy cow
So they don't know what "will have earned by" means then? Geez Louise.

Sounds like the Bill Campbell bribery trial here in Atlanta. The jurors were told he was charged with accepting a bribe "on or about" June 9. A witness testified he bribed Campbel on June 8.

So they failed to convict on that charge.
