Does anyone know any good jazz clubs in NYC?

I'm just starting to get into the whole jazz scene and want to go check out some live acts in the city (I live in metro NJ).

So, where are some good places to go? I appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

1. Iridium Jazz Club (see link below)

The great Les Paul at 88 still plays with his kick-ass band every Monday night (2 shows). I caught his show a couple of months ago. Wonderful, and he signs autographs at the end!

2. I was just going to post that same club, having seen the legend himself

a couple years back. Lots of celebrities like to jam with him still.

Leisurely dinner service available during the show (tip-dinner tables are closest to the stage). 13. Yes. It moved down to the 50s.

It used to be in the Empire Hotel at Lincoln Center, but it moved to ~50th and Broadway a while ago.

A couple of Jazz and Blues clubs in my neighborhood: Cleopatra's Needle, on 93rd or 94th and Broadway, and Smoke (used to be Augie's) on about 104th and Broadway.

14. Hey - you're pretty close to me!

Have you been to the new jazz club just below 125th an Broadway? I've walked by a lot, and have been tempted to go in (though always during the day when no music is going on), but haven't yet. But they have live music I believe every night. looks like a nice and comfortable place, and doesn't screw you with entry fee like Smoke does.

6. I really like St. Nick's Pub in Harlem (and don't forget the cotton club!)

Hear a lot more improvisation and free-er form jazz there, and it's also an old and famous club.

First set usually is all German and Japanese tourists; about 11 pm, the locals start coming in.

Nice little club with HOT jazz (and please note I am using "hot jazz" in the technical sense, I just mean it's awesome and charged up)

Also Smoke on Broadway in the 80s or 90s.

And also another new place that I haven't been to yet that's on Broadway just south of 125th, around LaSalle. Alas, I also cannot think of the name, but when I walk by, it looks like a nice place.

And then there's the Cotton Club, on 125th and 12th Aveneue. I've never to gone that one, but walked by it a lot. Their Sunday Gospel Burnch is supposed to be an amazing experience and is always packed (probably at lesst half tourist, I'm told).

I think that's the name of it, it was founded by saxophonist/composer John Zorn, and I got to play there once. But I vaguely recall hearing that it closed.
