Who else loves the album "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway"?

The last album Peter Gabriel recorded with Genesis was this concept double album. The concept and lyrics were the work of Peter Gabriel, with the rest of the band providing the music. As far as the prog world goes, this is probably the closest thing you'll find to the archetypal concept album.

I especially enjoy listening to the songs "Back in NYC" and "The Carpet Crawlers".

I saw the band perform the album in it's entirety on February 4th, 1975 at the Arie Crown Theater in Chicago. It was the last tour that Peter Gabriel made with Genesis.

3. When I was in college, our English class had to write a paper on dreams

that we had.

I drew a blank.

And the night before the paper was due. I opened the ablum cover and started writing my dream. (but not more that 4 exact words in a row- That would be plagarism)

I was very happy I got an A on the paper. But it was "so imaginative," my professor chose to read it in front of the entire class.

I sweated for the next 6 weeks, hoping he would not find out I lifted the story from Genesis/Gabriel.

4. An incredible composition

I love it!

But you're gonna get a bunch of naysayers who consider it musiical masturbation, etc. Sad that they cannot see the truth of it all.

Genius bit of music.

I love afterglow - especially live. Though I didn't see Genesis for the first time until after Gabriel had left (Abacab tour), they did Afterglow on a number of tours, and live it's really moving music - much fuller and more texture than the studio version - plus all the lights floating in the background. Cool stuff. In the Cage also cool, with the lights aimed down to look like a prison.

Man, I miss that band.

They sure jumped the shark with "Invisible Touch". They almost did it with Abacab, but then followed up with that amazing Mama album. But Inisibale touch and after - yucko.

12. I agree. "Mama" and "Home By The Sea" are almost Gabrielesque.

Silver Rainbow is beautiful too.

6. The last 'real' Genesis album.

Saw them perform it at maple Leaf Gardens - Gabriel at his theatric best. After that, Genesis degenerated into a pop band (a POP BAND!) while Gabriel still cranks out decent material every few years.

Lamb is a must for anyone into the history of modern music.

8. I'm a big fan of Peter-Gabriel-era Genesis

after he left, they pretty much bit the bag. I'm NOT a Phil Collins fan, and he dominated the sound too much after Peter left. Of course, my being one of the world's biggest PG fans might have something to do with my opinion.

It's amazing how they got that big sound live with only five people back then! I quite like Genesis Live because it's got a minimal amount of post-recording studio tweakery on it. The version of "Watcher" is spectacular!

I love early Genesis, and both The Lamb and Carpet Crawlers are among my very favorite Genesis songs.

Who has, like, 700 or 800 cassettes upstairs in the library. The Lamb Lies Down is one of the more frequently played.

13. Great Album!

It's my second favorite Gabriel-era Genesis album-- the first being "Foxtrot" ("Supper's Ready" still slays me after all this time).

I'm also a big fan of Pete's solo work, too. I also liked the later Genesis stuff up to ABACAB, and even some of the stuff on "Invisible Touch" and "Genesis", but I really lost interest when Phil took them on the detour to Dittyville.

14. "Back in NYC" is ugly. "The Carpet Crawlers" is beautiful.

But the best ones IMO are "Fly on a Windshield" and "Broadway Melody Of 1974".

Is probably my favorite album EVER. I've owned it on vinyl (two copies -- both with the original booklet), eight-track, cassette, CD and MP3.

Great album. My kids hate "The bees" (their term) part of the album.
I lost interest in Genesis after Duke. I liked that album, then they became "the Phil Collins band"

23. I LOVE early Genesis!

Gabriel-ear Genesis was one of the greatest bands ever. I used to listen to "Foxtrot" everyday and still find new details and nuances I'd missed. In high school, while simultaneously discovering the joys of mid-80's grunge like Squirrel Bait and Dinosaur, I was also getting really into early Genesis....God, that was good stuff.

TOTALLY underrated. (and a huge influence on my favorite group, GbV...)
