Tonight's brew? Wychwood Fiddler's Elbow
I couldn't resist with a name like that, even though it's in a clear glass bottle. I'm sorry I didn't though, because that's surely what makes this pint taste so skunky.

There's some interesting character under the skunkiness, however; and I'd like to try this one straight from a tap.

What's your brew de nuit?

5. Anderson Valley Brewing Company, in Boonville CA.

Northern Mendocino County. VERY YUMMY. I don't know what their national distribution is like, but I've bought it all over CA. I've been known to spend an otherwise unnecessary couple of extra hours at the Buckhorn Saloon in Boonville on occasion....

Also on my A list: Humboldt Brewing Company's Eight-Ball Stout. Smooth and creamy, with a substantial chewiness. Probably NOT available much outside the local area, though.

on edit: AVB also makes a very nice oatmeal stout and a porter that is an easy meal replacement. Two pints of the latter is a long, slow evening. Excuse me while I go to the refrigerator....
