1. My dear Wetzelbill!

12. ahh Peggy, my reference is too juvenile for the likes of your wisdom
The picture I posted in my OP is that of a famous pro wrestler whose heydey was in the mid 80s to early 90s. His name is Steve "Dr. Death" Williams. :)

2. yeah, it's a toss up as to whether he's a mercy killer
or a serial killer

I used to think he was a mercy killer

but I'm not so sure anymore

I think he might be a serial killer JMO

4. dunno
i think the case that made me go hmmmm, was when he helped a depressed person commit suicide.

i dunno, maybe there are people that get so depressed that there is no other option, certainly those that commit suicide and succeed aren't around to study whether they could have been helped or not, and those that survive may not be representative enough of the other.

Somehow he seemed too eager to do it.

so I dunno if he will assist in his own suicide? or if he will even do that at all?

:hi:

7. i do too
and i'm not saying that there might not be cases for a.s. in intractable depression, i just think this might not have been that case.

and i'm not jumping to think we should implement it for any mental illness, i can almost picture a naziesque kind of thing happening.

9. i said i support it for terminal illness, mental illness is another thing.
i would not suport assisted suicide for that.

10. not unless it was somehow
really well documented that the person responded to nothing and they were psychotic and in torment. Then they wouldn't be of sound mind to make that kind of decision and I don't know how the decision would ever be made.

working in the mental health field i've seen only a few cases that didn't respond to the available treatments. but who's to say that they wouldn't respond to a new treatment, or eventually to what's available.

in fact, a very bright lady, a psychologist who is schizophrenic, is sitting in a state hospital right now as far as i know and has been there for months with no progress being made. this being after months of treatment in other facilities one after another.

i don't know how i could ever support it in her case, and personally probably wouldn't, but there may be some that come up with the "ethical" answer to such a difficult question.

5. Am I the only other one who gets the joke?
First thing I thought of before I clicked was "Dr. Death" Steve Williams. :)

11. classic pro grappler
The dead giveaway on this being a joke is the mere action of me posting it in the lounge. Plus, since Dr. Death is a pro wrestler, at least half the people around here would almost expect me to make a Steve Williams reference.
