87. The Boise area is quite different from the northern and mountainous parts of the state.
We're high desert and it gets broiling hot here. The sun is relentless. Triple digits temps are common in July and August.

There's rarely snow accumulation in Boise at all. We have shoveled snow twice, maybe three times in the 6-1/2 years we've lived here. My children have built a snowman twice. If we want them to play in snow, we have to drive up to McCall in the mountains for a weekend.

It stays pretty warm here through about mid-October; the day we arrived on Oct 10, 2000, it was 81 degrees.

without doing a search, didn't I see a pic of you in front of water? I would die without some water around with that kind of heat. I love the ocean, but a really big lake(or river)is cool too.

I am very ignorant about that part of the country. Shame on me.

92. If it's this picture....

That was taken 20 years ago in my homeland, in front of Lake Nokomis in Minneapolis.

There are a few manmade bodies of water around here, and a beach up at Lucky Peak reservoir about a 30-minute drive from here. Beyond the beach at Lucky Peak there is also plenty of room for boating and waterskiing. There are lots of rivers nearby; the Boise river runs through the city, and we're also near the Snake River and the Payette River (which is a popular spot for whitewater rafting).

I grew up (teenage years) on Horse Creek out past Lansing in Ashe County. About 2 miles from the house there is a silver dollar surveyor's coin where you can step one foot in NC, TN and VA.

Very pretty, but not much activity for the teen years.

Thats a reason I need to go to Boone when I go. They have liquor.

In Ashe, we've been able to buy beer within West Jefferson city limits for a loong time. Recently they voted beer/wine in restaurants and are now able to purchase beer in Jefferson.

I freaked when I saw the beer aisle at groceries! hehe

They had liquor when I was a teen in 80's. I hear stories of why. I was told before they built college there there were big battles of whether to put college in Wataga (Boone) or Ashe. Wataga won, so they got the college votes to get liquor approved.

I remember well, every Friday we had to decide.. Boone, Sparta or the bootlegger for the weekend's booze. Some of the trips home were very scary.

I remember Mission Beach.(?) The Pacific seemed COLD to this east coast girl.

The city seemed smoggy to me when I was there; I remember I loved Jack-in-the-Box. Funny the things one remembers.

70. Lighter than usual trades, very few windward/mauka showers, mid to upper 80s
Edited on Fri Jun-01-07 06:20 PM by KamaAina
in sum, quite nice. The more usual trade showers have a nasty habit of blowing over into town right around my commute time. :grr:

edit: '80s is a decade. :dunce: Then again, we are quite often behind the times out here...

73. Fair enough.

Normally there would be many more green and blue blobs, especially over the mountainous areas (alas, not visible; I couldn't get the cool one with the topo images to post) and out to sea. Of course, once the ridge gets right down over us this weekend, I have to worry about "vog" (volcanic smog) coming up from Big Island... you just can't win! :-)

107. About 25° and partly sunny here--nice late spring day
That's 25° Celsius, obviously, about 77°F.
About as good as it gets in these parts:

We don't have any big bodies of water nearby except the Rhein River,
which is not recommended for swimming.

Kama Aina--I know what that means, my daughter went to HPA in Waimea
on the Big Island for two years. The 12 hour time difference drove us
all nuts, but, man, was it nice to have an excuse to run over there every
now and then!

125. You are right on both counts
Dallas, Texas it is, but my work keeps me over here for much of the year.
I am station chief for Europe for my little outfit, but since my wife is
German, and I get to choose where our European HQ is, it wasn't difficult
to opt for Germany. That pic is more or less right behind the back yard of
our German house. No such view from the place in Dallas, that is for sure!

127. Germany is geographically convenient for me
It borders on Belgium, Holland, France, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Austria, Czech Republic,
Poland, Denmark, and both the North Sea and the Baltic. It's an hour's flight to just about
anywhere in Europe. Plus, we have the added benefits of my wife being able to live and work in her
native country, with all the free education for our kids (when they lived here) and health
care, which was important when she was diagnosed with cancer.

The weather sucks, and the paperwork is infuriating, but the people are nice, the food is great,
and we have about 20 interesting countries within a maximum 2 hour flight from the nearby
airport. The 1000 year old castle in back of the house (the one in the pic) has a great, though
not cheap, restaurant in it, and there is no restriction to the public for access to the castle
grounds from 8 AM to 11 PM. I always enjoy my time back home, but there are worse places than here
to have your office.

The radar does show a small red cell moving north, but it's several miles south of the cities designated for the warning.

Which means, I have 10 minutes to get kitted up and pray for lightning to take snapshots of, unless it loses its steam by then.
