Unprovoked red wasp attack - WTF!!?1
I'm walking through the backyard minding my own business when I get the sudden sensation of a red-hot carpet needle being jabbed into the back of my head, then hear a chuckle-tinged buzzing receding into the distance.

Now admittedly my bald spot does look like a target, but aren't there rules of engagement whereby the human must somehow be actively annoying the wasp community? I mean, really.

:wtf:

1. I feel for you. We had a nest on our front porch a few years
back and the wasps apparently were extremely disturbed by my son's voice, (he was about 4) They swarmed and bit him about 6 times before my husband was able to literally throw him into the house.

It was awful. The poor little guy was in such pain.

Needless to say, those wasps were gone in the amount of time it took to go to Lowe's and back with spray.

2. Yeah, usually wasps and I sort of stare each other down...
...then we make a wary retreat to our respective safety areas. For me, that's inside the damn house.

Usually they don't make a sneak attack, unless this was some sort of wasp gang initiation.

10. I leave the screens opened in my room
so my big dumb dog doesn't tear them up.

I am often visited, at my desk, by all sorts of flying bugs. Fortunately they just buzz around my head making me nervous until they find their way back out.

If at any time they target the back of my head and open fire, I will have to change my position on letting them bee. All treaties are canceled and its game on. :D

Dressed as red wasps trying to incite an interbackyard incident. Remember the Polish radio station?

12. all you need to do is breath on a wasp..
CO2 tends to incite stinging insects like wasps and bees because they read it as a potential predator. Isn't that a nice little factoid? That's why you never want to have any sort of hive near your house...:)

20. wasps can be kinda passive aggressive
maybe you pissed them off a while back and they just now got u for it....heheh

When i was a kid there used to be a lot of wasps that would sit right on the water in the pool. We would splash them whenever they landed. About 10-15 mins later they would come back with their friends and attack all of us.

My mom always said to put meat tenderizer on the sting, which I always did. Does that actually work or is my mom just looney?

And, yes, they attack unprovoked. However red wasps are considered to be not as aggressive as other wasps unless they feel their hive is threatened, even if it's just someone is too close to it. Wasps also don't like the color black and will seek to attack that. Were you wearing a black shirt?

When I was 5, I walked under a yellow jacket nest. I was attacked...all over my head, face, arms and neck. it is a horrid thing to happen.

Poor you

23. I have a black fence surrounding the pool area of my yard
and the wasps keep landing there and "attacking" it--hitting it with their stingers and acting aggressively towrd it. So, I did a look up on Google and learned that black is an attack color for them.

No more doing yard work in my black CSNY T-shirt..guess wasps can't read :eyes:
