Woah, there's some crazy stuff on PostSecret this Sunday.
http://postsecret.blogspot.com/

Not their wildest week ever, to be sure, but these confessions were sent in on some of the most creative cards I've seen there in a while. Especially the "I tell my cat EVERYTHING" card. That one is most impressive.

1. I think the authenticity ratio of that site has gone way down!

2. Really?
I do miss the good old days, when Jeff got so few secrets that three of mine actually got posted, but I still think the stuff he puts up is fascinating and helpful.

6. I just know people submit false secrets.
And really, how can he verify anything?

9. Jeff actually has a good "eye" for true vs. less true secrets.

I've never sent him any untrue secrets, but the first collection I sent (maybe ten postcards) had a mixture of "urgent, must tell someone" kinds of confessions and "blah, I just thought I'd mention this because I never have before" kinds. He promptly selected and posted the most painful, private thing I had never told anyone from that collection and put it up (which, though it may sound cliché, actually did help me to start telling others about it, which led to therapy and recovery, etc.).

The next collection of secrets I mailed him consisted of the same kinds of cards; some had things on them I was desperate to confess, some contained confessions that were less significant. I couldn't believe it when he again found the one that was upsetting me the most (and that remains a secret to this day) and posted it--even though it wasn't confessed on the most creative looking postcard you've ever seen (the art on the card was kinda dull, actually).

I can even say that he was equally judicious in picking out my third posted secret, (the one that's in the first book and is one of the icons for the Amazon page for that book) even though it came to him during the week in '05 when he requested "secrets of joy" from his readers and he appeared to be getting a lot of unusual secrets that I imagine were of debatable authenticity.

So, I think he's able to tell. It's been a while since I've come across a secret there that made me go, "Meh; don't buy it." For the record, it was the postcard which claimed that the creator's whole family believed s/he had been killed on 9/11.

8. Yeah, that'll happen.
Have you read the books? There are some scary and upsetting secrets in those, especially in "The Secret Lives of Men and Women." I can see why he kept them off the website.

I feel so impure now.

10. Kick. And just out of curiosity...
has anyone ever sent a postcard to the PostSecret Project website? You don't have to mention what it said (in fact, you probably shouldn't...). I'm just wondering.
