Rate Your Cat's Attitude

I get along very well with Otis, my 4 year old orange tabby, but that's probably because he has such a good attitude. He accepts my comings and goings, he eats what I put in his bowl, and he doesn't have any "issues." He's a pretty good cat most of the time.

There are times, however, when he's off stride. Weather changes seem to affect his mood, and he looks to me to do something about it. He's also not very understanding if I get up in the middle of the night when I should be sleeping. Lately he's been rousting me out of bed earlier than I want, but he does have a point. I shouldn't snooze my life away . . . a tomcat would know that.

He's down with the "animal companion" thing, too. I don't think of him as a pet, and he appreciates that. He may even be smarter than me in some ways, but he isn't snooty about it. Good thing, too. I'd rank him out if he were.

How's your cat? Is s/he contemporary?

1. We have 3 cats

1. Montana is so gentle, patient and (I hate to use this word) obedient. He never complains, he never agitates for some of what we're eating, he never gets pushy - he just accepts whatever comes his way with gratitude.

2. Simba is becoming pickier about food, to the point where he stopped eating a week ago and I had to force canned food upon him (not really forced - he loves it). I switched dry food and he's doing much better now.

3. Morrissey could rapidly become a blimp if I don't curb it and he wasn't so active. He forces his way in on the other cats' food and our food. He's a complete riot.

None of them seems bothered yet by weather changes or outside forces. They just seem so happy to get so much love and attention.

We don't think of any of our cats as pets either - they are our friends and family.

2. my two girls are womderful

mia: she's my fat girl. she's sweet and pretty mellow, but has a tendency to yell incessantly at me if she can see even the littlest bit of the bottom of the food dish (i've got one of those gravity things, but she can't be bothered to shake more out). she curls up at my feet at night and doesn't move and doesn't mind when i get up in the middle of the night.

mira: she's my little, goofy puppy-kitty. she's so sweet but not the brightest bulb in the box (she bounced off the screen yesterday when she tried to jump in through the window. not just once, but a few times). she's not much of a talker at all. in fact, i didn't think she could talk for the longest time. she isn't as tolerant when i get up in the middle of the night, but she always comes back to bed.

they're pretty even-tempered but get a bit wily if we have crazy weather, which is why i think mia has been a brat lately. for the last week or so, no matter where mira is sleeping, mia wants to be there. it's not much of a battle, though, because mia far outweighs mira and mira has no front claws (she came to me that way).

they know they are my family and i don't think they'd stand for anything less ;)
