I bought Pillow Talk on DVD this afternoon--ask me anything!

Corny, but still damn funny.

Doris was a much better actress than she was given credit for--they need to give her an honorary Oscar, just like Liz Smith says.

2. Would this be that great "family values" movie

where she gets knocked up by a playboy at the end? The only reason I ask that is that prudes always try to harken back to those old movies to prove their point, and they end up proving mine. It's a great movie. DD is beautiful in it.

DD doesn't have an oscar? You're right, she deserves one for being willing to portray a real woman who actually likes sex in the fifties. She deserves kudos for standing up for her friend, Rock Hudson, near the end of his life when it was announced that he had AIDS.

...and maybe you're right--she gets knocked up, but she's married by that time. One of those cutsie 50's sex romps.

Rock Hudson was a playboy who poses as his scientist friend, and Doris Day works at an advertising agency and Hudson has his friend invent some drug?

7. They did three of them--two after Pillow Talk, and I can't recall

the plots of the other two.

In this one Rock pretendsto be a Texan, and Doris is an interior decorator who falls for him, not realizing that he's the playboy who is rude and shares her party line.

11. Lover Come Back involved the competing advertising people

Hudson comes up with a pseudoproduct called VIP. When he's threatened with fraud charges, he actually has to come up with the stuff, which is a candy that makes you intoxicated.

My favorite of the Day-Hudson movies was Send Me No Flowers, where Hudson is convinced he's dying and tries to make arrangements for his wife to find another man when he's gone.

...I watched Pillow Talk again last night and just cracked up the whole time.

The best is the scene where she cries in the car with Tony Randall driving.

5. Great movie, and pretty racy for its time.

I love the writing, and Doris Day acts the perfect prude, 'Not fascinated. Revolted!' or when she does that, 'Well!'--she's great. This is one of my favorite movies. Has anyone seen, 'That Touch of Mink' with Doris Day and Cary Grant? That has some of the funniest one-liners I've ever heard, mostly from Audrey Meadows with her dead pan delivery. I love it.

She and Cary Grant really did a great job on that one. The scene where everywhere they went she pictured them on that bed was so cute!

19. Which Doris ensemble was your favorite?

I love the white satin formal gown she wears with Tony the Yalie. Gorgeous cut, wonderful fabric. I also love her going-to-the country dress and coat, though I would (of course) have a faux fur collar on the coat. And the turquoise necklace she wears during "Rollie Polie" (sp?) is beautiful, and would still look contemporary today.

This is one of my favorite Sunday afternoon movies. When TCM plays it in letterbox I never fail to watch.

What comes across so beautifully in the film is the genuine affection that Doris and Rock had for each other -- those were real smiles and real laughs they were sharing with us.
