Day one of no cigarettes
And I wasn't a smoker, I was a tobacco enthusiast.

I hunted out good all natural tobacco, mixed it and made my own smokes. Not only because it saved me tons of money, but because the smokes were better that way.

Still, I just turned 40 and years of hard living are catching up to me and something has to give.

I still will smoke the occasional cigar, because those you don't inhale (yeah, let me live with my subtle distinctions and justifications) but it's a start.

I've been helped by the drug Chantix.

2. Congratulations Fuzz.
I am a recent quitter too - just over three months. I smoked Nat Sherman cigs and did it cold turkey. The hardest part for me is driving to and from work.

:hi:

5. That was my preference too.
I somehow believed they were "better" for me...:silly:

I did break down during a stressful moment and take one drag about a month ago and I thought I was going to barf.

4. Inspiring news!
I'm on a roller-coaster of trying to quit. I tried my first time like 2 months ago, cold turkey. I didn't make it long. I am a smoker.. of cigarettes. 2+ packs a day for years. I slowed down to a pack a day and that was a hell of a trial.

I did that for a while and then took (well tried to take) a week off beer and smokes. The beer was cake. Day2 I smoked a few butts and eventually smoked ..hmm, I forget 5-6 cigarettes that week.

Now I'm screwing up pretty bad. I feel like a schmuck that its whipping my arse, but I'll get it one day.

Good luck to you and..

7. are you using a nicotine substitute, like the patch or gum?
I quit many years ago that way - unfortunately it only lasted a couple years and then I started again. Getting ready to quit again for good and just wondering how people are dealing with it.

9. No nicotine replacement, but the doc gave me Chantrix
I think I'm spelling it right. Been on it for over a month now and it has definitely eased the process. I've tried to quit before without any drug assistance and I wouldn't have even been able to post a coherent response if I didn't have some help in that regard.

This drug apparently does nothing to help with the nicotine addiction, but helps in other ways, pleasure center of the brain, etc. but it seems to be working ok so far for me. And I've tried like 2 other drugs before including the nicotine replacement thing before.

Like Twain said, Quitting smoking is easy, I've done it a million times. :)
