Alas, he's not toilet trained. :(

Isn't he beautiful? :D

His name is Shadow. He's at the riding stable my friend takes lessons at, and is the most mild mannered stallion I've ever encountered.

We hit it off immediately - even without any treats. As soon as he seems me coming, he's already:

If I happen to start paying attention to other horses, I either get a playful tug on the back of my shirt, or the sides of the stall get kicked until my attention is squarely back on him.

I've visited him about 5 times so far, but it's enough to know it's lurv on both sides. :loveya:

*Sigh*. I would love to own a horse again...

Oh he's gorgeous!

I can't ride worth a damn...

More power to you!

Owning one is a huge responsibility, though......

3. It is a big responsibility, Peggy,
especially finacially.

I haven't ridden in a few years, but had been riding much of my life prior to that - basic dressage and jumping. Many of my happiest moments were in the saddle...

This was the guy I used to own :)

8. Thanks, Peggy
He was a beaut - and a wonderful, but complex personality.

I could see him (in human form) as a chain smoking, struggling (albeit brilliant) novelist in the Left Bank in 1920's Paris. :silly:

He's got a wonderful curiousity, but seems pretty bomb proof. Nothing fazes or startles him.

It's always wonderful to share a special bond with an animal. :)

12. My rival...

:grr:

I mean, bad enough when it was just a horse's ass (sorry, GoPsUx...nothing personal) but now it's the whole horse. And what's this?:

"the most mild mannered stallion I've ever encountered."

Ha! Ask anyone...I can bet my manners are more mild.

And this, too!:

"As soon as he seems me coming, he's already"

Um. Yeah.

At this point I'll just skulk away, 'cos I hate to brag (no, really)...

I was shocked to hear that mare was only 9 - she's got a great future ahead of her!

I hope more people upload dressage videos to youtube. I'd love to see some of the greats from the past couple of decades. I have one (on VHS) that sometime I'll get around to... :)

19. I love horses
We had them when I grew up on the farm. I am the horse whisperer. Of course I always had apples and carrots when I would visit them. So they naturally liked me. Most times I wouldn't even want a ride. Just to hang out with them a while. Maybe feed them some oats which they liked better than alfalfa.

I also raised hogs for FFA (it's like 4H) which really makes me outraged at the "Hogzilla" farm hunt. I raised my swine for meat but I expected/demanded that they would get a quick death instead of three hours of torture.

A bit small for me - he's about 15.1 or so at best, and I like a 16+ hand horse. Still, I'm not riding him, just enjoying his company. :)

Here's hoping there's an equine friend in both of our futures...:toast:

35. Owning a horse is a really big deal, it sounds like you know that
I grew up in a horse town and although I never had one myself, a lot of my school friends did and I was not envious of all the work they entailed!

But the riding sure was fun!
