Poll question: What is your favorite Shakespeare tragedy? |
|
I am woefully lacking in my knowledge of his tragedies, but I post here the ones I know.

Sir Ian McKellan was in a very interesting film adaptation of Richard III a few years ago.
Great play.

Both got Oscar nominations; the movie was nominated for best picture and I don't know what all else.
THAT is a tragedy, man. Not on Shakespearean level, but still. Damn.

9. Technically, Richard III isn't a tragedy. It's one of his history plays.... |

...the final installment in the first Henriad.
I find Lear completely devastating (and Titus a close second).
edited to add: here's a list of the tragedies:
Antony and Cleopatra Coriolanus Hamlet Julius Caesar King Lear Macbeth Othello Romeo and Juliet Timon of Athens Titus Andronicus

Simple, elegant, clever. Beats the pants off "Hamlet." I actually have the text of it on a poster on my wall.
