Don't know if you guys remember, but I asked for advice earlier this week on how to remedy the, er, messy situation of Lucinda's first, er, "womanly time."

Well, I bought some small diapers, and they fit her perfectly, since she has a little nubby tail. I lay her on her back, just like a baby, put them on her, and she hasn't fidgeted or tried to get out of them yet. Now she can cuddle on the couch with me just like before, and doesn't have to banished to the bathroom.

her and my weimy Bisbee. They have been, well, amorous lately...or horny--but at any rate, even though they are both German breeds, I can't imagine that giving birth to 10 schnauzeramers would be a pleasant experience for my little girl. ;-)

Schnauzer? I'd love to get one - do you plan to breed her just once before you spay her?

I have a Yorkie - Max and I'd like to get him a brother or sister. Either a Scottie or a Schnauzer. The member of bush's family that I like is Barney ;)

8. I had a scottie before Lucinda...she was killed on my driveway last

summer. I posted on DU about it. It was a terrible experience.

Now, let me be honest. Scotties are stubborn dogs. They are sweet, but they are their own masters and difficult to train--can be extremely tempermental.

Schnauzers are much more easy to train--much more loyal, and all around easier dogs to deal with...

With Maddy, I would call her and she would just keep on going. She was horrible to housebreak, and she could be aggressive towards children.

Lucinda minds me, and I put much less effort into training her. She housebroke easily and she also minds my son. She sleeps at his feet most every night. She isn't as independent-minded as Maddy was.

I love Maddy still and miss her deeply, but, and god I hate to say this, Lucinda is more of a companion.

I would recommend a Schnauzer to you.

Don't know if I will breed her or not. A close friend has a male schnauzer, and she is considering letting him "date" Lucinda in her next heat, but she is hesitant because she views him as a "little boy." LOL! But that would be the only circumstance in which I would breed her. I am probably going to spay her.

I ADORE this dog in spite of the very tough time I have had raising him. I got some excellent advice from another poster Havocmom, who was right on the money. I had NEVER had to deal with such an alpha dog. Salin has been coaching me at regular intervals as well. In just 18 days this dog has come miles...he still has a bit more to go but I believe we will arrive.

We have also started doggie training classes, gotten neutered (well, he did...mine is more by exclusion), gotten an infection..had to wear a dumb cone and be boarded for a couple days, had our first long stint outside in our flashy new dog den , learned to heel, sit and stay (that one is a toughy) but we are now officially a set....this guy is in my life in sickness and in health...I promise to love honor and obey him...no wait...scratch that...I just LOVE HIM!

10. My dog and I had some

bad experiences with these things.
Once, she ran outside to do number 2 before I could get it off. And she hated baths and water (her cat liked water). Good thing it was summer so I could hose her back-end off, and she was so ashamed. The cat just played in the spray. I sometimes think that my German Shepard was a finicky cat in a GS body and the barn born cat, she is still with me and misses her dog as much as I do, thinks she is a GS. The cat still meoowarfs when people come by. Except the GS wanted company and the cat is trying to scare them away.

That is the funniest story I have heard yet!

Luci has been great about outdoor breaks. She goes to the front door and rings the bells hanging on the doorknob, and I go remove her diaper and she goes out and does her business. I have to stay between my amorous weimy and her, though, because he wants to play with her badly.

My brother has a German Shepard. She is the most docile creature I have ever been around. A beautiful dog. :-)

18. When the cat

does the dog thing, she does a meow that is as close to a bark as she can get.
The dog, having been raised in France and having very high culinary standards was shocked when the kitten brought in one of her first kills with fur still on it and not cooked with herbs, and laid it by the dog's dish. The dog was askance and backed away from her dish looked at me and looked at the dead thing and back to me, with her ears going ever which way. I explained to her that the cat had given her a very great gift, she was not amused.
Once, when the kitten was only around 2 months old, the GS ran out for the first morning potty on dry desert sand and clay, which creates quite a pee-spread, the kitten obligenly tried to cover it. About a quarter of the way around the diameter, the kitten flooped down in exhaustion, then shook herself, shook her head looked at the dog like bury it! So, I explained to the kitten that dogs don't bury it.
Recently we moved to house where there is a yard and not regular desert. There are still dead leaves on the ground, the cat went out, started to bury her droppings, but instead of dirt, it was leaves. She kept smelling, pushing leaves higher and higher and after a foot and a half of leaves, she walked off.

17. not even being locked in a garage or a 7 ft fence

kept our old neighbor's dog away from men. she would always end up pregnant. but she was a great dog. shepherdish mix. cute puppies. even foiled a sexual assault in our alley.

my Dad who invented a blunted arrow to hit a Dog to scare him away from our Bitch in heat. He got several, but not the boxer who mated with our collie. Gives a dog with a normal size nose.
I still have images of Dad in his underwear protecting Frosty's virture.
By the way there is only about a day a so that a bitch will accept a dog. The vulvula is really wide open then.

I haven't ever bred a dog and wouldn't know what to do if I did. But I might breed her with my best galfriend's male schnauzer during her next heat, if I can get my friend over thinking of her male as a three year old boy.

you can breed around 2 years old, not sooner. The bones have to be well-formed or the pups weaken the bones. Good breeders always wait a year at least to re-breed for the same reason, calcium depletion and weaking of the bones and don't let the bitch breed after 3 or 4 times.
Do you want another good story?
When the German Shepard trucked (no trees were there) a roadrunner.
We were playing ball. Then comes this fully matured yard-long roadrunner, trucking down the lane. The GS, raised in Paris and used to company (in the dog park she had 26 friends and other) sorely lacking in Roswell and on 20 acres of well not much plant life-like in Paris, greeted the roadrunner with 2 tennis balls in her mouth. The roadrunner, thinking fox or some type of canine predator, jumps on top of my truck. The GS trying to entice the roadrunner to play, drops the the tennis balls, picks them up, flolicks around. The roadrunner looks upon the 'predator' like 'man those are wreid eggs', but I'm not budging from my perch.
I took the GS into the house. And got the roadrunner off my truck. Then spent an hour getting roadrunner shit off the windsheild and roof (corrosive as hell).
Tried to explain to the GS that she was supposed to scare gd big birds off the truck.
Cat went chasing a roadrunner but didn't catch it. Did meet up with a big bird of such ilk. Got a scar on her nose for that and hides when the big hawks come by (under the truck).

I can tell that you love her so much. I had a toy Poodle that I loved dearly when I was a kid and he developed a heart condition and he died at 6 years old. I would have given anything to have a carbon copy of my little dog and that is why I suggest breeding the dog one time and keeping a pup.

I love this dog more than any canine companion I have ever had. She is so sweet and sensitive and I can't imagine losing her. It would destroy my son and me.

The first day of her, uh, is period an acceptable term? Well, the first day of her period I kept her in the bathroom until I could find a solution. Went to the store, found some diapers, and tried them and they worked.

We don't have a pet specialty shop in my small home town. I am glad the diapers worked. :-)
