family tree/geneology -- just have to share this
a couple of weeks before christmas, my dad received a christmas card from a cousin of his that he hasn't seen/talked to in over 40 years

using the return address and the internet - my dad was able to track down his cousin's phone number and gave him a call - they talked for hours

turns out the cousin's daughter has also been trying to put together a family tree (I've been working on one too). I mailed out copies of what I have to my dad who is going to pass it along to his cousin

meanwhile - this has inspired my dad to organize the family photo albums and shoe boxes and envelopes of pictures - took him over a week to do this - working on it 4-5 hours a day

what he ended up with is a collection of albums - organized by date
the earliest picture was one of my grandmother as an infant - taken in 1904, and ends with a couple of pictures of my nieces taken Jan 1, 2004 --- blew my mind - it covers 100 years

1. That is cool!
I, too, am an amatuer genealogist. I've gotten some of the old photos, but my brother has the rest and can't find them! Have you considered putting some of the photos online? I did that, along with pension papers, newspaper articles, and other documents, so that fellow researchers would have access to the information. I have found a lot of cousins who have discovered the site (which is linked to my tree at WorldConnect) and have thanked me for the information.

2. I am into this also and getting ready to add it to a site.
Fixing or checking errors right now. Never thought of the pictures but for just us right here, Will give that some thought.

am planning on scanning in the others my dad has assembled, but that won't be until September (they live in MN, I'm in PA) when I go out there for my parent's 50th wedding anniversay

4. Great!
I had a great-great uncle who ran away from home and the family didn't know what became of him. I have his father's photo posted on my site. A few months ago, the uncle's grandson got hold of me-the photo (and the unusual last name) helped him know that he'd finally found his roots. It was really really nice to know I'd been able to help someone. And the neatest thing is that he gave me photos to add to the online album!
