It all made sense back then - there were them and us. I know this is the frailty of the Conservatives but it is also the delusion of youth. Back when I was in Thailand, doing Peace Corps, it felt all so clear.

There was the enemy (in my case, a virus which reproduced through reverse scripitansese of RNA. And we could solve it. There it was, and simple behavior modification could do it.

The Executive AND Legislative branches were on our side (this was around 92-95) at least at first...

And we were just so...fucking...young...

Then everything changed, and the reality hit the fan
