Should the Eagles be banned from future NFC title games?
There should be some sort of punishment for choking three consecutive years.

1. Oh come on......
think about it - if your favorite team was going to the NFC championship, wouldn't you want to know they were going up against the Eagles???

:eyes:

I love my team and we'll be back next year!!! I am Eagle Green Loyal til the end of time!!!

26. Lynne, have you ever attended a game at the Vet?
If one is rooting for the opposition, Eagle fans are the most obnoxious and occasionally violent fans in the NFL. My best friend was hospitalized in Philly with a broken cheekbone, two broken ribs, and a dislocated shoulder. His crime? Wearing a Redskins jersey to a Skins-Eagles game. His wife had beer poured on her, and her purse and binoculars were stolen after she was shoved to the ground and kicked upon trying to help her husband. She swears that her husband never said a word to anyone, but simply cheered as the Skins upset the Eagles that day. I have worn my Redskins jersey to Texas Stadium (Cowboys), Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum (Raiders), Giants Stadium (New York Giants), Kezar (San Francisco 49ers), and Soldier Field (Chicago Bears); and never felt a moment's trepidation. Eagle fans, (present company excepted), suck. Bottom line, if Rush had kept his fucking mouth shut, I would have been rooting for the Eagles to get their ass handed to them in the first round of the playoffs. But now that I think about it, maybe this is better. (And by the way, Andy Reid is now the 4th best coach in the NFC East.)

but I haven't been to the Linc--the new place--yet because I no longer live in Philadelphia. The 700 level at the Vet was notorious...No excuse for bad bhavior, but it's easy to paint with broad brushes or I could make lots of statements about Giants fans.

It's very sad indeed. It's easy to have hatred toward acts like this, but in some strange way, you have to feel sorry for them. What bitter, sick individuals.

Should we ban Buffalo from the SuperBowl? Since they pulled off a feat likely never to be repeated again, everyone has to crack on them. Eagles fans can hold their head up high, just like Buffalo fans can. When was the last time your team even made the championship game, let alone 3 years running?

Hell, I'd be happy if my team made the championship game 3 years running. They haven't been close in a while.

30. lifelong oilers/titans fan here.........
i was just happy they made the 99 superbowl, after following them for nearly 30 tears. they have missed the playoffs once since. i sat wide awake, 1992, in lamadalena, italy...at 2am, watching the oilers become the victim of the biggest comeback in nfl playoff... the "out of bounds" catch vrs the steelers in the '79 afc championship...i still have my "luv ya blue" flag from the astrodome....

it's just as hard being a tennessee fan...last years championship loss to the raiders, a tough loss to the pats this year, baltimore in 2000 and of course the loss to the rams in the superbowl...but mcnair finds ways to make each finish exciting. so did moon. even kenny stabler found a few more good years with the oilers.

i can only see the titans if they visit jax or tampa bay..miami is too much of a drive...i always wear a titans jersey when i go...i have taken some verbal abuse, but nothing that you wouldn't expect from fans. never been physicaly attacked, but im not exactly a little guy either.

44. Thank you
I wonder if the people who are bashing Eagles fans on this thread take personal responsibility for every assholish thing that happens in their cities, neighborhoods, corner bars, stadiums or schoolyards whether they were personally involved in it or not. It's every bit as ugly as the actions of the few emotionally arrested assholes who on used to reside on the 700 level of the Vet.

Personally, I doubt it very much.

The Eagles were winners when they were 0-2, they're winners today and they'll still be winners on Feb. 1st. Go EAGLES!!!

I would recommend putting a fence around greater Philadelphia and barring the persons inside from interaction with the rest of the nation. However there is the Constitution and I am not in total control yet. What can you do?

53. Actually I lived in Texas when I was in the service
Did you ever serve? Just curious.

Again I say, I haven't threatened you. And the issue of me threatening you with "my buddies" is a fabrication. Since you seem to insist that I have and further berate me for being behind the keyboard I really do think it is imperative that we meet the next time you're in the area. Just so, you know, we can talk face-to-face without the computer, since you are so dead set against keeping a computer between us, and I agree completely.

Drop me a PM if you find yourself in the Philly area sometime. We can have a beer and hash all of this out. We'll get to the bottom of it.

(no doubt you'll perceive this as a threat too, my God now THAT is fear)

And actually, I find it pretty funny that you consider the Bushevik term so immature. I have no doubt professor Mark Crispin Miller, who coined it, must be such an immature child!

http://www.markcrispinmiller.blogspot.com/2003_09_14_markcrispinmiller_archive.html

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0393322963/002-8790666-2934437?v=glance

Yeah, what an immature professor and published author!

And the only thing Cowboys Fans can do is whimper "You must be jealous. We've won Super Bowls." Quite a lot of nerve...actually pathetic arrogance, to hew to that weakness.

Such a lame, tired, stupid argument, the equivalent of a rich man saying "you must be jealous of me if you want to raise my taxes."

And your fear. My God, your fear!

Undoubtedly I have enjoyed my team as much as you've enjoyed your through the years, good and bad. I also recognize that Cowboy Fan arrogance prevents you from acknoweldging that anyone could enjoy their team as much as you do yours. Just a small part of the fear and arrogance problem of the Cowboys Fan.

Of course, football season being just about over, it's not likely that I'll be starting many Cowboys threads. But trust me, the threat of you showing up isn't going to deter me one iota.

If indeed you are a school counselor, I pity those children. Are you afraid when they say something you interpret as threatening (which is likely quite a lot)?

Just asking.

I love my Eagles but I'm licking my wounds. I've done 3 hours of feline therapy (I volunteer for the local cat shelter) to help heal my wounds. But I'd rather be an Eagles fan any and every day of the week than any other football team out there.

I love you Eagles!!

42. Ah the age-old excuse of arrogance
"I'm just doing what was done to me."

Of course you are.

If Dallas fans hadn't had their arrogance to keep them warm, they would be cold as blocks of ice.

You continue, on this and other threads to behave very much like the people you profess to hate...namely the Philly fans.

I understand the hate and especially the fear of the Dallas fan, but they really should try to contain them.

I pity all Dallas fans. Arrogance born of ignorance is a grotesque trait. And fear reeks.

So customary, to behave in the exact way you hate other for doing. So appallingly commonplace, as apalling as the belief that people who dislike Dallas are automatically jealous of Dallas.

But I also understand the arrogance and insecurity of that mentality. I dislike it, and I suppose that means I am jealous of it, by the twisted logic of the Dallas fan.

By that logic, I am jealous of the woners of purple umbrellas since I don't have one.

By the by, does that mean that ALL fans of ALL the teams who haven't won a Super Bowl are jealous of the Cowboys?

I guess it does, by your logic.

Damn those purple umbella people. I just hate them because I don't have one!

The game was the game. It turned out as it did. I will continue to support my team and rail against the arrogance that believes dislike equals jealousy. That someone would hypocritically behave like those they dislike, namely Eagle fans, is a very common trait among the arrogant.

It is funny just how much time and effort you have wasted considering, you know, how Dallas fans don't hate Philly, they just sort of rise above it, not deigning to descend to the level of those they dislike.

But that's not particularly true in the case of a certain Dallas fan...is it? Not judging by the number of responses and the intensity with which they were written.

Perhaps someone is protecting their arrogant ego with a little bit of touch-up falsity?

Perhaps.

51. One more time, and I have work to do in the real world
I read your message on the general discussion board. How you would love to have me in Philly (and in another post how you and your buddies would show me a good time). You have also called me names (Bushevik for one). I won't put up with it, and it will be addressed if it continues.

Hey, buddy. You're borrowing my line. The basement thing came from me, and it certainly bothered you. You obviously aren't original. And if you read a few posts up, I answered your question concerning who I am and what I do (and also the fact that we don't have basements in Texas. For someone who knows so much about Texas and Texans, you sure get things wrong. You can't get anything right). Get in the real world, man.

Now excuse me, I have work to do. You know, in an office. With real people. With real problems. Second semester is starting, and I have students wanting to discuss schedules. Get a clue, man, and get a reality check.

52. I knew you couldn't keep a promise
What a surprise.

Poor thing. And considering the epidemic of projection that certain types employ, I figured that naturally you must live in your parents' basement.

I wasn't borrowing your line, merely helping you struggle with your projection to help you become a better person. I'm sorry if you're having difficulty facing up to it. I figured that the effort would be futile. Continue to project your wretched situation onto others. You are only hurting yourself.

And your fear, of course. Which certainly shows in your constant mouthings that I threatened you.

If you came up to Philly I certainly would show you a good time, as I would with any visitor to my home. The invitation still stands, though I'm sure your fear would prohibit you from taking me up on it.

In fact, every time you come back here after saying you wouldn't indicates how much you are bothered. How much you hypcoritically cannot stop behaving as those Eagles fans you dislike so. You said you wouldn't, now you have. And I guarantee you'll come back again.

You can't help yourself. Arrogance demands it.

So I'll await your next barb wth glee. Whatever the outcome of the game, you cannot help but display what you are.

So come on back. You know you can't help yourself.

8. they aren't the first
The Oakland Raiders choked in conference title games 3 years in a row TWICE - in the late 60's and mid-70's. The Dallas Cowboys choked in 3 conference title games in the early 80's (Philly defeated them in the 1980-81 season conference game, only to lose to the Raiders in the Super Bowl).

Couldn't have happened to two nicer teams than Oakland and Dallas. :D

My AFC picks didn't pan out, but in the NFC I predicted Carolina would go to the Super Bowl since midseason. I stuck with them throughout the playoffs. I think they will hand the Patsies their asses on a platter.

29. I am not an Eagles fan
But pretty neutral about them otherwise. Anyway, I am well aware of Dallas and Oakland - asshole teams that they are - winning lots of Super Bowls, and that underscores the point that even perpetual chokers like them get a chance to turn around. Of course, the Raiders always had lots of help from the refs through the years.

I like Philadelphia. The place treated me well when I spent some time there some years ago. I went to a Phillies game and witnessed no bad behavior, and that was when Pete Rose played.

The Eagles will be contenders next year, far more than either the choking Cowboys and the hapless 4-12 Raiders.

37. Perpetual chokers don't win superbowls
Those "asshole" organizations have won 8. Philly, none. Even Buffalo and Minnesota, who a have never won a superbowl, at least got there several times. They could get the choker tag, but they made it on several different occasions. Philly made it once, and they had two out of three conference championship games at home the last three years. And lost all of them. When Dallas and Oakland lost their three straight, at least they were ON THE ROAD. Big, big difference.

"Asshole organizations." I guess that's okay to say on this board. Especially when it pertains to Dallas.

"Failure" is a word being kicked around a lot today. They made it to the championship three years in a row, fer cripes sake. And after the start they had this year.... Off subject a bit, but if I had a vote, the biggest choke job of the day was Peyton Manning. The guy was on fire two straight weeks, and totally stunk. Totally. McNabb did not play well, but Philly got beat as a team. The Colts lost because of poor QB play.

16. As much as I hate Philly
An Eagles fan is sick. A Packer fan is wrong on so many different levels. There are words that can be used - but somehow the English language fails.

When I think of Green Bay, or contemplate their fans, I think of a smell. Last year I found a body that had been decomposing in a hot apartment for a week. Before her untimely passing, the person was using a bucket for her bodily waste for a week before that. When I opened that door I was overwhelmed and began vomiting immediately. Police officers and paramedics also wretched.

That smell I will always associate with Packers fans.

No NFL Championships in 43 years. No Super Bowl appearance since 1981.

Phillies, appeared in 5 World Series since 1915. Won 1 since 1883.

Flyers, no Stanley Cups in 29 years.

If the Phila. fan seems obnoxious it's because they are tired of waiting. This latest Eagle fiasco was the worst that could happen.

Nobody, but nobody thought the Eagles would do this for the 3rd year. We'll come out of our coffins in the spring.

My team has only made it once, and Philly made it once - both lost, lol.

It's only sports, so it amuses me when people get angry and emotional. :-)

In the scheme of things, it has zero importance, although somce redeeming gambling and/or entertainment value.

Just the way the emotions run high, and mean people flame others for merely liking another team. It's like a mini-version of GD2004, only far less is at stake with the country with the outcome.

Though I wouldn't laugh at your misery, I do remember back in college, my roommate was a huge Blazers fan (NBA) and when they lost the finals, he kicked a big empty box in the TV room halfway across it. It was funny how angry he was over a GAME. He had quick recovery anyway, and was normal a few minutes later. Who couldn't laugh at that?

But the next time they get to the playoffs and lose, they should be condemned to having John Ashcroft's song played at their home games, along with (maybe simultaneously with) the Star Spangled Banner!

They need to have a major upgrade at receiver, a good pass-rushing defensive lineman, and some help on the offensive line. But with talk of BOTH Taylor and Vincent going, I wonder how committed Lurie is to getting us to the next level. Sure, Reid may have had input, but Lurie never put a lot of money into his movies. Maybe at that rate, they should be banned to prevent more heartbreak. I am very frustrated! :argh: The champioship game always shows a team's weakness. Now I thought the refs were calling in Carolina's favor throughout the game, but that's not what made the Eagles lose. Sometimes if you're playing well, you get the calls. The Eagles looked uptight from the start, and I personally am still not an Andy Reid fan. I want a championship because it's been 1960 since they won one. The ultimate goal is a championship, and this team's loyal fans have been waiting for too long. I can't accept just a good season.

33. Hell no, then I couldn't bet against them!
For two straight years my most reliable NFL stats indicated the Eagles were phony championship game favorites against better teams, the Buccs and Panthers.

This year they couldn't stop the run all year, so how were they supposed to give 5 points to Carolina with Davis and Foster?

Plus this year's team was injury plagued and flawed -- fortunate to get the home field when the Rams lost to Detroit, and to beat Green Bay a week earlier. The 2001 and 2002 Eagles were more legit.

40. Parcells and Gibbs will take care of the Eagles
Unless they pick up some all star receiver talent and a every down running back, the iggles are screwed.

46. In fact, Henley and the boys (except maybe Walsh) could have put up
a better fight.

They were good during the Hotel California days, but I don't know anymore.
