Warner Bros Chairman apologizes to Joss Whedon

Also in that oh-so-Hollywood way, during a panel session earlier in the day, "Angel" and "Buffy, the Vampire Slayer" creator Joss Whedon was asked for his reaction to the word that the WB was looking at a fall pilot by "ER" and "The West Wing" producer John Wells, based on the old vampire soap opera "Dark Shadows."

Whedon obviously was taken by surprise.

"At least it’s not an important, successful producer," Whedon joked.

At the party, Levin took Whedon aside to apologize for not telling him earlier.

When asked about the conversation, Whedon said there was no problem.

"Well, except that our budget is cut so we won’t actually have the money for vampires next year," Whedon joked. "You’ll have to look off-camera for them as we reference the scary people."

1. Yay!
Man that show was the GREATEST. We used to gather in the attic of my coop in college at midnight and watch episodes. Good memories. I went to a couple of conventions (boy does Barnabas sound weird when he doesn't talk in his accent). I was bummed when the Ben Cross version was cancelled after half a season. He was a pretty good Barnabas.

My very favorite character was Julia Hoffman. Wow, she was great. A real tough lady, with brains, and a secret, tragic love for Barnabas. Not much of a looker though. I tried to get a friend interested in the show once and he kept calling her the skull lady cause her face looked like a grotesque white skin-covered skull. After her, Willie Loomis. I sure did like him too, I don't know why.

I wonder if this will be true to the spirit of the original or if it'll be just another Vampire show that bought the rights to the name.

2. It will probably be true to the original
The article doesn't mention it, but the show's original creator, Dan Curtis, is also involved with the project.
