the vampire in daycare
There's evidently a little girl in Chris' toddler class who has a taste for him, to the extent that he's come home twice in two weeks with bite marks on his arm. She evidently does this with no provocation or warning - although the staff hasn't told us which child it is (and I don't expect them to do so), they say they've talked to the parents. We'll see how things went today here in a little bit.

When I took him this morning, I asked that she be kept away from him as much as possible. We've put in a significant amount of work breaking him of his nascent biting habit, and I'd really like to not have this child snacking on mine. The imprint of every tooth in her head was still on his arm four hours after the incident yesterday. Besides which, he'll bite back, and I think he has more teeth.

Suggestions?

1. No help but...
I had one kid that was the bite eeh and one that was the biter. It was ten times worse having the kids that bit the other kids. Our daughter eventually got kicked out of the daycare for biting. Once she learned how to talk she quit doing it but it was hell while it lasted.

2. understood.
I feel for her parents. Chris drew blood on me a couple of times, and I know it can be a real pain to break that habit.

3. Keep on the daycare.
You may want to ask that they put an extra staff member in your son's room for a few days to keep a closer eye on her. Unless the parents of the girl are completely clueless, they're probably trying to stop her too.

I hope it works itself out soon. I remember when my youngest was bitten by another kid in his toddler room at daycare. It sucked for him, but I'm guessing it sucked for the parents of the other kid too.

Being nonverbal sucks.

4. "Being nonverbal sucks."
:) No kidding. He's actually doing pretty well in that regard for 20 months, but yeah, there's a communication breakdown between "I really don't like it when you take a hunk out of my arm" and "Ok, I'm sorry, just frustrated by the lack of toys in my general vicinity"...
