Poll question: Your favorite carnival ride
Edited on Tue Jun-12-07 03:22 PM by bob_weaver
By this I mean the portable rides that travel from one state fair to another.
If your favorite isn't listed, please reply with it.

1. The Zipper!
Nothing beats like being tossed around like popcorn in a steel cage!

even though it is less than 10 minutes from me.

4. The Tilt-a-Whirl is my favorite of the local carnival rides (as opposed to the
huge rides at places like Great America). For some reason it makes me laugh myself silly. I can't explain it, I immediately start howling with laughter as soon as it starts. My husband hates rides that spin so I always have a hard time getting anyone to go on it with me.

9. Same here

...I love it, Mr Bjornsdotter hates it.

Meet ya at the Lake County fair, by the Tilt-a-Whirl.

Cheers

5. The Flying Bob
At least that's what they used to call it. You went around in a circle up and down the car flew in and out, damn i'd better quit or I'll get this locked.

6. I gotta go with the Zipper also....
Just seeing the word "Gravitron" makes me shudder though. I've always found the piss/sweat/vomit aroma that permeates those things to be a bit much to take.

7. Hmmm, I'm not even sure what the Zipper is.
Edited on Tue Jun-12-07 03:47 PM by Pacifist Patriot
Off to Google I suppose. In fact, I'm not even sure what the name is of my favorite ride. But I must say I do like carnivals. So much more fun than stationary amusement parks. Atmosphere that doesn't quit.

ETA: Googled. OMG! That's the thing the insane folks ride. Eeek! Never worked up the nerve. Guess I'm a tilt-a-whirl girl.

8. I've been on the Zipper once in my life, and I thought my stomach was going to come out of my mouth
Horrible feeling. I don't understand why people like it.

21. Just that.
I know how those rides go together.

Consider, they're put up and taken down on an average of once a week for 8 or 9 months out of a year. They're torn down starting about midnight on Saturday, moved from 100 to 300 miles and put back up in order to be ready to run by 4pm Monday. They HAVE to be ready to run. So shortcuts are often taken.

Rides in a park that are safety inspected and not full of makeshifts are different.
