An English teacher from Western High School resigned Monday amid an investigation of an incident in which he allegedly removed a student's garter with his teeth during the prom, a school system spokeswoman said yesterday.
Lauren Roberts, public information officer with Jefferson County Public Schools, said Western Principal Louis Hughley Jr. had reassigned teacher Brett Coogle to non-instructional duties on May 17. Western's prom was May 11.
"Some kids were passing around prom pictures and a staff member saw a photo that raised some concern and showed it to the principal," Roberts said. "The photo allegedly showed him removing a candy garter with his teeth from a female student during the prom."
Coogle had been employed with the school system since 2001. He also was Western's volleyball and fast-pitch softball coach, according to the Kentucky High School Athletic Association.
