It was on a 3 lane road- I was in the right lane, the center lane was open, and the truck was in the left lane. I was behind an extremely slow git, and I wanted past him- I switched lanes and suddenly heard a horn blow and this truck brushed my rear fender, leaving scuff marks behind the tire.
I KNOW the center lane was open- I have "dead spot" mirrors and use them by habit- they've saved my life many times when I caught something in them I didn't see in the rear view mirrors. He obviously wanted the center lane too and didn't look and/or didn't have the reactions to cut his lane change short.
I didn't feel inclined to stop, and he didn't stop either- he tried to do the macho "whip around" manouver, but there was too much traffic, so he merely pulled up beside me for a moment before he got into the left hand turn lane and went his own way.
It's times like that I am really glad I have the old '91 Explorer- it's a bit junky but VERY tough in a street fight (so to speak). I can live with a scuff mark on my fender- I hope the other guy got off as lightly.
I guess I'll never know.
