14. Thanks, it's a painting. I love strange religious paintings.
This seems a little odd to me too, but at least the Roman Catholic Church believes that the earth is a sphere:

16. Oddly enough, it reminds me a bit of a dream
minus the gemstones on their chests or whatever that is

I had this dream once, where i was talking to Jesus, we were in outer space I guess, because the earth was literally his footstool.

Odd dream, and I don't remember anything but the feeling, that being that everything was going to be okay. I guess the proportions in this picture reminded me of that. Mary wasn't there unless she was in the shadows watching :D

42. I bookmarked it
it is interesting to see artists' impressions of spiritual ideas and characters isn't it.

i love looking at religious icons sometimes, while i don't see the characters in the way that artists might, i am amazed at the details they add to pictures, etc. and the symbolism that is included.

iconic

45. Yes, I love it too.
Have you ever prayed with icons? Just concentrate on the details in a quiet, undistrative method.

Actually, you can do so with any religious picture or statue. The holy card is the poor man's icon. One store sells icons near me for anywhere from $7-$30, but at the Roman Catholic cathedral the Holy Cards go for 15 cents! That's cheaper than gum and that's how it should be!

and peace inducing.

I had a friend who had lots of icons, and collected mostly Catholic crucifixes, and icons. She wasn't Catholic, neither am I, but I do believe that all who seek a higher power can find that power.

In respect to your big picture there, isn't it kind of macabre to worship a disembodied heart? Or am I being too literal?

Usually, the Sacred Heart is embodied in paintings, but that one was allegorical.
The Heart is basically to represent God's love.

We may get 25 people to vote but I did have about 25 people vote early so 50 would be good.

I really need to get to bed by 12.

The election is for one race for City Council, early voting was very slow.

My early voting location had the most voters and we didn't have a lot.

I watched a lot of movies on my laptop for 9 days.

I made a nice little check for doing nothing, including overtime.

I think the best person will win, she almost won last time.

They say the most important sexual organ is the brain. This is good! Even if we lose our genitals, we are sexual beings.

Sex is also a gift from God.

49. I agree, and I also think that it is true
that there is a strong correlation between sexuality and spirituality. In that I mean that it is in a sense an act of spirit to be sexual. Or at least there is a spiritual experience involved in sex. :D

What was that movie with Sandra Bullock and Sylvester Stallone, takes place in the future. They hook up goggles and they "connect" I guess telepathically to experience sex in the brain. They no longer touch each other. Now, that is going a little far.

I also think that if there were to be some kind of virtual reality sexual device that was realistic, it would be worse than crack cocaine for our country.

So much for my late night thoughts on this subject :D

51. Great,great horror movie.
I love the original but the remake was able to follow the short story "Who Goes There?" that they were based on much closer than the original was able to do.The original reduces the alien to just a big dumb veggie, and the whole paranoia aspect gets left our entirely. In the remake the sense of distrust and paranoia is palpable, and becomes a character itself by the end of the movie

Add to that Bottin's fantastic (and yes, gooey) special effects (still some of the best ever done, imo),great and funny dialogue, and an ending that only a pessimist could love, and you have one of the best horror movies ever made.Carpenter never came this close to great horror before or after, and that includes the above average Halloween.

I love that line the guy delivers, after a pause, when the severed head sprouts a bunch of legs and scurries away.

This is probably my favorite horror movie ever. The atmosphere of tension and dread that it creates is just amazing, and the "blood test" scene is easily the most nerve-wracking in horror movie history. I've seen this movie easily a half a dozen times, and that scene STILL scares the shit out of me.

56. It's good to see so many people who appreciate it now.
It was a flop in theaters for some reason, but thankfully has caught on since the video release.I've seen it a couple dozen times now and I still totally get into it each time.Wilfred Brimley telling them he feels "much better now"...with the noose hanging behind him in the background is a classic bit,and the blood test scene you mentioned is one of the best in horror movie history. And of course Russell yelling,"Yeah, fuck you too!" as he kills (?) the Thing is hilarious.

Just a great flick all around.
