Things I enjoyed today

--A fresh ripe garden tomato sandwich, on toast, with a bit of mayo, salt, and pepper. I don't usually like tomatoes like that, but this time...wow.

--A strawberry-pineapple smoothie made with fresh strawberries, pineapple chunks, vanilla yogurt, and ice. Soooo good.

--The luscious feel of a long, hot bubble bath, after which I climbed between cool, freshly-washed sheets, with a fan blowing in the background, and took a wonderful 2 hour nap.

--My seven-year-old deciding on his own to come snuggle up in my lap and cuddle for 10 minutes straight. It's usually a miracle when he stops moving for 2 minutes in a row! Pretty soon he'll be too big and "grown up" for me to hold him like that anymore, but today he was my baby again for a little while.

--The lovely cool breeze and temperature drop that accompany a mild thunderstorm as it moves it. Everything went from being hot and sticky to being cool and breezy in a matter of minutes, and the feel of the wind lifting the heavy weight of my hair off of my neck and drying the perspiration there was just heaven.

In spite of all the stress I've been going through, I had these moments of bliss today. I'm grateful. :grouphug:

1. The Dodgers beating the LAAoA with little ball

Final was 2-1. Only one extra-base hit, a double by Vlad Guerrero — and that was a fly ball that bounced off Matt Kemp's glove and into the seats.

Derek Lowe gave up only four hits and struck out 11, a career high. Saito got his 19th save.

And we're back in first all by ourselves. :bounce:

2. A heart-toheart talk with the mother of my children

I did a neat part at work.

3. for once,my fiance and i both had the day off

So we snuggled all day in bed while having the fan on and drinking ice tea. Nothing feels better than lying all nice and clean together with your loved one with crisp white sheets and the fan; feels so warm and fuzzy.

Then we picked up a pizza while blasting The Smiths and The Clash.

We played video games for 4 hours and had great weed.

Then we snuggled more and now he feel asleep.

4. Glad to hear it.

Watching a family member go through stress is very hard, especially when you are powerless to change it. I am watching one of my brothers having a very hard time right now and it is tough. Glad to know you were able to 'de-stress' a bit.

5. My eldest daughter getting married

It was outside, beautiful setting. It was really a special and emotive event for me. She is 25, and all of her long-time friends were there, young adults who we have watched grow from very early childhood, for the most part.

It was good to see these young people and realize that they have become our future, and that it is a good thing.

It was good to feel my own age (51) and realize that I was passing into a new phase of life, and that it is ok.

And almost all of our friends who helped with the wedding are part of a large group, of which we are a part, who have helped each other often over the years with weddings, baby showers, funerals, birthday celebrations, etc.; there for each other for good times and sad times. And for us, today, from early morning to late, late evening they worked tremendously hard to make the day a success.

It was good to dance with my wife of 30 years, today.

It was good to see my cousins, who I see too rarely, but who have been close all of our lives.

And for the first time ever in my life my dad, who is in his 70's, put his arm around my shoulder and gave me affirmation that he was glad I was his son. There is a lot of history behind that, and it isn't of any import to The Lounge, but it was absolutely unexpected and added another layer of specialness to the day.

We served beer, wine, and champagne, and nobody got plowed or hammered, just a celebration of a joining of families.

It was a good day...
